The husband finally let me take over and I don't want to blow it!!

Rats!
@5:45am FC=6, CC=1, but at least the amonia is 0 and has been steadily so since 12:15pm yesterday.

So back to every 2 testing every 2 hours? Is that normal to lose 10 FC overnight at this point?

No splashless bleach (thougt of it tho after I splashed my shirt a couple times).

Sounds to me like that cloud of "white stuff" was dead algae. You've got to keep up the SLAM, brush and vacuum as needed.

Did you pull the lights out of their niches and clean in and under any ladders? Are the pumps running 24/7?

Do you think it shot out after we cleaned the filters because the water pressure sure did improve right after that.
Don't know how to pull the lights out. Is it difficult, will I have to ask my husband to help? No ladders. Yes, pump on 24/7.

Usually it's just one screw to remove the metal retaining ring and then the light assembly pulls out and floats to the top of the water. You can then sit it on your deck while you go at the inside of the niche with a good scrubbing brush.

It was a good thing it shot out after cleaning the filter. Best to clear out as much as you can otherwise it sits in its hiding places and just acts as a source of chlorine demand.

we have seen some FC loss after cleaning of filters...

The light should be 1 screw to pull the light out, there should be enough cord to pull the light and set it on the concrete and clean it there.. some people have cleaned the lights and then floated them in the pool until they passed OCLT.. clean inside the niche also :)

your getting there, just keep doing what you have been.. :)

Well, I might have a dilema about the lilghts. There is one on the floor of the kiddie pool section and one on the pool side which is 3' below deck level, aout 1' below the "stair type" ledge built into the side of the pool. I don't think I can get to it. Hubby says "that ain't happenin" about his taking the lights apart. Is it critical to do this?
Maybe I'll try the kiddie pool light.

Testing hourly till I go to work at 9:30
@6:45am FC=18 (oops), CC=1.0

They should be designed to be easily removable or else you would not be able to change a bulb?

Yes, often times you have to get into the water to do it. But it's not usually that hard to do. Perhaps if you try to do it and struggle a bit, it might awaken a little chivalry in your hubby and get him to help you. If not chivalry, then hopefully his ego will tell him to help you lest he never hear the end of the tales you will tell everyone of your friends and family about how you conquered pool care and now have the cleanest pool ever ;)

Don't worry, 18ppm is fine and will give you a little extra buffer while at work. You could go up to 20ppm and it would not matter (except you could not swim in that).

BTW husband said he would help with the lights since I said I'd do it myself and he knows I don't go in the water. Hee hee

could have miscounted, no problem.. :) Your killing green things

There have been a lot of people with algae behind there lights and it has taken a long time to SLAM until they pulled the lights out...

About not going in the water, I'm a little germaphobe and I am very suspect of any pool, especially a public pool or hotel. Maybe I'll take my TF100 kit on vacation with me LOL.
But all this work is not for nothing because recently our neighborhood has changed, many young families, and this year for the first time the neighborhood kids have asked if they could use the pool so I'm very concerned about the safety factor. (Of course the must have a parent present at all times)
So thank you ever so much!!
Maybe it might even change my mind about getting in. Haha

You could easily lose that much FC to algae hiding in your pool. You're doing great, keep up the good work!!

I think you're having an effect on your husband too! Speaking from the "male" perspective, I'm sure he's looking at you working hard at this and thinking to himself that he'd better be a part of the solution or else you'll get some serious bragging rights :) Next thing you need to do is find a hot-pink tee-shirt that has the words "Girl Power Gets It Done" written in glitter and wear it while working on the pool...that'll just kill him.
