The husband finally let me take over and I don't want to blow it!!

ok, that does not look good, what happened

did you not pass the OCLT? how close was it? I am guessing 1.5 FC and 0.5CC or 1FC and 1CC

I know you are really close, don't lose hope, we are here for you, let us know what happened..

Take a deep breath and smile :)

Ok, I think I know why the increased FC loss and higher CC a few days to a week ago. TH just told me he found one of the tables AND the umbrella IN the pool last week (from one of the severe thunder showers)!! One of the spokes of the umbrella got bent but thank God the glass table top didn't shatter! I bet all that kaka was messing up my tests. Well now I know for sure the tests don't lie!

I think I'm over failing the OCLT.......

TH had a dream last night that he covered up the pool, lockedit and threw away the key so i couldn't get at it anymore. So I started drilling holes in the sides and adding Clorox thru a funnell!

Casey, yup FC 1, CC 1

Poor TH!!!! LOL

I am sure that the yuck on the umbrella and table did a number on your tests!

You will get there! You are at the hardest place in the SLAM----------oh so close but.........some tiny steps to finish!

HUGS! You can do it!

Kim

I bet you thought I passed.
Nope.
Got worse.

Bet you are beginning to think I'm one of those people who creates drama for attention.
I'm beginning to wonder.

I lost 3.5FC and gained .5CC last night. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong??
Although pool math indicated FC16, I brought it up to 20 a week ago and have been trying to maintain that level. During the past few days I could not sustain the FC20 throughout the day because of being away at work but it never fell below 16. The last couple of nights the FC tested at 18.5 and 17 so I "let it ride" because I only lost 1 or <1 FC in the morning. (Passed OCLT night before). Last night I think I miscounted and came up with FC12.5 and CC 1 (started at FC18 at 5:30am, couldn't test till 9:15pm and it was a sunny, windy day so I thought it wasnt too out of line) Anyway, at 10pm it tested 23FC and 1.0CC so I figured I must've miscounted earlier. Since I couldn't undo the Clorox I had added, I went to bed thinking for sure everything will be dead overnight and I should see a 22 or better FC and .5 CC for sure. Well, au contrair, this morning the FC was 19.5 and CC was 1.5!! (I lost 3.5ppm FC and gained .5 CC) I retested and got the same results.
I reread JasonLion's post on fighting algae, and the TFP section on fighting algae and (aside from miscounting and adding too much clorox last night) I can't think of what I'm doing wrong. Could the overdose have done it?

Sadly, we are out of town till late Sunday night. Leaving today at noon. Can I do anything differently in the meantime? Or is it back to the drawing board on Monday morning?? (Oh please say it ain't so!!!!)

Do you get a lot of insects in the pool overnight?
Are you cleaning the skimmer & filter baskets daily, especially before OCLT? It takes along time to oxidize insects.
No insects overnight.
Yes, cleaning the skimmer and filter daily.
Yesterday I put the nylon basket liners back on and there was minimal gunk and not insects. I'm also remembering that when I cleaned out the robot's bag yesterday, he "threw up" a bunch of little leaves and tiny pine needles and junk into the pool (yes, I DID turn him off first but I had the pool pump on and I guess that did it). Tried to net it all out, could that have done it? But I did that early yesterday morning.

how does the water look? If you can read a quarter in the deep end???

Water looks good. Yes, heads.

How about a 10ml syringe to get your water sample for FC testing to make sure it's always the same exact amount?

I often wonder if i would pass an OCLT with my water samples. Sometime I feel like I have a little more water in the vial sometimes a little less.

Since we're talking about only losing 1fC or less I wonder how much of a difference a slightly different water amount would make.

It's just an idea. I know there's a thing called a sample sizer out there for that exact purpose but I'd think a cheap syringe from a drugstore would work.

What does everyone else think about that?

Seems like it could help to remove one possible variable.

Your not doing anything wrong.. Lets look at this :)

Ok, you took FC up to 22 and your CC was 1.0, it looks like taking it up that high was killing something that was not getting killed at your lower FC level.. and that is a good thing :)

in the morning it went down to 19.5 fc and 1.5 cc so you are definitely killing things or your CC would not have gone up..

for the tonight until Sunday, take your FC up just below mustard shock level FC of 22 .. just looked and that is what you did last night :) your fc should still be above 16 when you return and maybe this will help with getting this last little bit of algae out..

I have the SampleSizer and I absolutely love it! The SampleSizer and SpeedStir were the best investment I could make for my K-2006 kit. I went from needing 30mins minimum to do all the tests to being able to complete them in under 15mins.

While the SampleSizer does help you to create uniform water sample volumes from test to test, I sincerely doubt that a sample volume error is that large. You'd have to be very noticeably off the mark to create an error that large.

Just my 2 cents...

Yes, water sample always the same, I did 10ml every time. I even take water samples from the same part of the pool, a foot deep. I rinse the container out every time.

This is good to know. I did an OCLT and lost 1.5. I did it because my SWG is having a hard time keeping up. I had two crickets, dead frog, couple of spiders and ALWAYS have suicidal rolly pollies. And I had cleaned it out before bed [emoji15] So my pool is fighting insects - lol!
