Hi all,
I'm a new pool owner. I just got my TF Pro salt test kit. I just did the salt test and made sure to follow the directions. My result was 4000 ppm. My intellichlor reading in my intellicenter app is 3600 and I have a digital probe that has a reading of 3659ish ppm. It goes a little up or down from that but not much. Leslie's always reads low and keeps saying add a bag of salt. I can't remember the exact reading but it was something like 2800. So, is it really possible that my salt is that high, 4000 ppm?

Yes. Taylor kits are accurate +/- 1 drop in 10. A result of 4000 is 20 drops, so could be anywhere from 3600 to 4400.

3600 on the cell and 4000 on the drop test are entirely within the parameters of both.

If the cell is happy, swim on...

Ignore any testing from the PoolStore.

Sincerely, PoolStored.

Mary,

The salt test is a little different than our other tests.. You are not looking for a specific color, you are just looking for the instant the color changes.. You don't keep adding drops until the color no longer changes.

After you add the initial drops, the color will be milky.. As you get close to the stopping point, the milky color will 'flash' to tan color and then immediately go back to milky.. It will do this a couple of times as you are adding additional drops. The very first drop that does not return to milky is your last drop..

I assume you are using the speed-stir when doing the salt test.. It is almost a requirement and makes the testing more accurate.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Yes, I am using the speed stir. The color change happened then it stayed that way. I didn't add more drops after the color change. The change was really obvious when it happened. It took 20 drops.

Thanks,
Mary
