Hey all,

I’m getting two different readings on Ph.

Taylor is reading 7.6-7.7 ( which is my target)

However a meter I purchased from Amazon (7$) is reading 8.1

Pretty far off reading. I calibrated with distilled and on Friday it was at 7.7 on the meter

Taylor is showing a nice light pink 7.6 range. And meter is showing 8.1. My question is which result would u trust. My fc is 7.5 (100cya).

Is meter is the way to go please provide suggestions on a good quality meter.

Thanks all

How reliable is the Taylor ph test? I’m fine with not using a meter at all. But figured I’d give it a shot. Figured not to trust the cheap meter.

I just ordered the apera, lets see if it’s the meter or Taylor drops giving the false readings.
The meters all have to be calibrated, cleaned, and often stored in a special solution with regular makntainence. The drop test doesn’t require any of that, except maybe replacing it every two years.

Question, does high chlorine levels (7-10ppm) affect ph meter results the same way it can affect the drops?

If so, I’m assuming I would have to add a chlorine neutralizer. Not sure how much I would have to add to the water sample (considering a larger sample for meter)

No, not until FC gets above 10.

And with high CYA levels yiu get a good pH reading between 10 and 15 if you read the test immediately.

You don’t need to test pH with high FC.

Got the apera today. Calibrated (two point 4 and 7) and showing 7.7 so I’m good.

Took me a while to realize you need to rinse the sensor with distilled water before and after each reading for the calibration.

Also can take 1-5min to stabilize when testing tap water (pool water). After that the reading was spot on.

Thanks for the suggestion on the meter!
