I've tested my FC and TC using my 2006-C testing kit each day for the past three days. Each time, the water doesn't turn pink when adding the powder (even with 10 scoops). This would indicate zero FC or TC. That said, I added 2lbs of shock to my pool this past Saturday and added three gallons of bleach yesterday. This is all while having 1 chlorine puck in each of my 3 skimmers. My CYA is 60 today (so a bit high but not crazy). I have a 40,000 gallon cement pool with cartridge filters FWIW. PH is normal at 7.4. I'm at a loss of what to do. Also FWIW, my pump isn't working very well (there's low-ish suction in the skimmers and low-ish velocity on water coming out of the returns. It's being replaced on Friday.

Welcome to TFP.

What % bleach are you using?

What is the date code on the bottles?

For future reference, if there's any undissolved powder in the bottom of the tube after adding/swirling, you don't need to add more. It won't make one lick of difference.

517,

More scoops won't help.. If it does not turn pink after two scoops, then you have no FC.

I suspect your pool has algae.. With a 40K pool, three gallons of Liquid Chlorine will only increase your FC to about 6 ppm. It really depends on what strength of chlorine.

I doubt your pump is bad, as pumps tend to work, or not work, they don't normally have a weak output. It sounds to me like your filter is full of algae.

You should take a good read through our pool school and see what we are all about. Pool School

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks. I’ve read lots of the articles in pool school but there are no visible signs of algae. The water is crystal clear. I’ll check and clean the filter this weekend.

Also I used 7.5% chlorine.

Each gallon of 7.5% chlorine raises your 40,000 gallon pool by 2.1 ppm.

An average pool can lose 3 ppm/day.

3 gallons of your 7.5% LC can be gone in 2 days.

So would algae in the filter catch the chlorine I put in the pool and prevent it from circulating?

You can have algae in perfectly clear water.

Add 3 gallons of your 7.5% LC and then do a FC test 30 minutes after adding.

BTW, what are the date codes on the chlorine jugs?
