Taking over pool responsibilities and overwhelmed!

3ppm. Use pool math to confirm how much to add to add 3ppm to 30,000 gallons. Use "Effects of Adding" tool in pool math. (It should show you 92 ounces of 12.5%).

Given the pool is green just add a gallon now.

Recorded this mornings test results. I did all advisable extra steps according to directions of my K2006C kit. Some I tested twice..
Tested with no extra chemicals since yesterday’s one gallon of LC. Pool looks better than yesterday.. now have acceptable CYA of 50, I left 20-25 % of water when I drained.
CH is still low!! And probably is what has contributed to etching in pool surface? Ugh…at least I understand a bit better now. Thanks to u guys!!!!!!!!! Pool pump is still running since yesterday, now what? Do I have/need to slam?🫣

I realize their r things out of range and CH def has to come up! Pool app gave suggestions but I’m not sure on whether or not to slam and when do address CH?

Your first priority is the SLAM. Get rid of the algae. If you had visible algae, follow the SLAM process.

If you are unsure, then do the overnight chlorine loss test. Link-->Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

You fail, you slam.

After the slam, raise your CH to 200. Test your fill water CH and report.

After the SLAM, always follow this...Link-->FC/CYA Levels

Just got my test kit!!!! So nervous..lol
Howdy neighbor!

I thought the same about testing but it will soon become old hat! A few months in and I don’t even read the instruction card anymore.

One thing I did that really helped get to that point was writing the number of drops needed on the bottom of the first bottles with a sharpie, so when I turn the bottle over to squeeze there it is! On the last bottle of each test I wrote x10 or whatever I needed to multiple the drops by to get the result.

You got this 😊

Pro tip. Use 10mL sample size for FC test with the FAS-DPD. Each drop is .5 FC. Plenty accurate for SLAM, OCLT or daily testing. Using 10mL will save reagent. No need for .2 accuracy.

If you started OCLT with 25ml, finish with 25ml, then transition to 10.

Look forward to your results!

Good evening, thank you so much for all ur help!! Just to be clear, am I checking FC and the CC? Or just the FC part of test?

For OCLT, go ahead and test FC and CC. FC loss >1FC or CC > .5, then SLAM.

For SLAM...Test FC and replace. No need to test CC until the pool is clear and you are testing the OCLT for a SLAM. Then test the CC with the morning OCLT test.

Hi there!
I looked up Pride Louisiana and didn’t realize that’s east BR, we kinda are neighbor's! And, my daughter lives in BR, small world.

BTW, you have a beautiful pool! Mine is old gunite, (bought the house about 7 years ago), and had it re-plastered and re-tiled. It’s a hot mess but it’s my hot mess, lol.

I truly believe taking over responsibility for my pool care is the best decision I’ve made regarding my pool….with that being said, I’m a researcher, not a chemist, and was a little “overwhelmed” at first, (ugh, I sound like such a drama queen) but it is def getting easier thanks to this website and all the amazing people! -Shout out to Poolstored!!!!

Thanks again for your help and support, means the world when you’re a little “overwhelmed” lol

Something is not right. FC should not go up overnight if you are not adding chlorine.
Did you add any chlorine between evening test and morning test.
Might consider your testing techniques. Read this:
No…I thought the same thing. I added a small amount today and brushed then launched dolphin. Should I redo the OCLT tonight?

I would, read the testing errors article.
I’ve read several times to make sure I haven’t missed anything. I don’t think it was my application but….it did just occur to me that we didn’t take the pucks out of the chlorinator but we did turn it off before we refilled the pool and haven’t touched it since. Maybe we should empty it??
