TA test sequence says add 2 drops of R-0007, 5 drops of R-0008 then count drops of R-0009 till green solution turns red. At 7 drops I see solution turn clear, on drop 8 it turns red. I'm assuming my PH is in the lower 70's. Am I assuming correctly?

Counting the number of drops as you go, add R-0009 one drop at a time, swirling to mix after each drop.
- Continue adding drops until the color changes to something more or less red, pink, yellow, or clear. The sample may switch between green, blue, and gray while you are adding drops. That is not the color change you are waiting for.
- Continue adding drops as long as the color continues changing. The final drop, that does not change the color any further, does not count.

Follow Marty’s instructions. I’d guess your TA at 90 as often times I see the color turn to red but one more drop will brighten it up more and the next drop after that shows no change. You saw a change at 8 which would be 80 but add the next drop to see if it changes again. The following drop is insurance.

Usually. You can do a TA test with a 10 mL sample which would be a multiple of 25, but since TA results are usually low, it's really not necessary.

I would think its more like 90ppm. I have found there is normally one drop more after the initial change to red that turns it into a brighter red. Its to do with the fact that there are actually two indicators being used.
TA numbers that are not even multiples of 10 are either from a home owners digital test meter which I would be sceptical about the result or they are from a pool store that uses a digital meter and then subtracts 1/3 of the CyA value. I’m even more sceptical of that answer which would now be carbonate alkalinity. Because its a lower number then the actual TA it makes it easier for the store to sell a bag of bicarb that is not needed.
