The Hayward Omni app is giving me a notification for the Chlorinator of “T Cell Authentication Error”. It is inactive (.16v, no cell current) and not reading salt level. I have tried to address it through the panel to no avail. The error arose after I cleaned the T Cell for the first time (with muriatic acid and water per instructions). I reinstalled it and cleared the notification to clean the T Cell. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

How old is the system?

I think that the new software uses 2 wires to "Authenticate" the cell to try to prevent generic aftermarket cells from being used.

Try unplugging the cell and plugging it back in while the power if off.

If that does not work, contact Hayward to see what they say.

Holding the plug vertically with the cord going down and looking at the connection points. 1 is top left, 2 is top right, 3 is second down left and so on with 9 being lower left and 10 being lower right.[50]

  • 1) Black - Power to cell
  • 2) White - Power to cell
  • 3) Black - Power to cell
  • 4) White - Power to cell
  • 5) Brown - Not used
  • 6) Red - Goes to thermistor
  • 7) Orange - Not used
  • 8) Yellow - Not used
  • 9) Green - Not used
  • 10) Blue - Goes to thermistor.
To test the thermistor test between points 6 and 10 using a multimeter, the resistance should follow a 10k thermistor chart.

It looks like the yellow and orange are the authentication wires.

Check the resistance between the #7 and #8 pins.

Thank you VERY much for your detailed reply! I did turn off the Chlorinator in the app, unplugged the T Cell, plugged it back in, and turned the back on the Chlorinator. Is this what you mean?

Thanks, Kent

Did your cell actually have scale on it and need cleaning?

Do not clean the cell with acid only based on the clean cell notification. The system does not know if the cell really needs cleaning. The notification is just an hours driven nag.

Cleaning the cell unnecessarily with acid shortens the life of the cell. Hayward does not care but you do.

For alternative cleaning methods read SWG How It Works - Further Reading

Yes, thanks. I’m aware of that. It had scales.

With the correct water chemistry your SWG should not develop scale.

If you want, tell us your water chemistry from your pool test kit.
