So I had recently purchases a home with a pool and have been having flow issues consistently since opening. I tried backwashing a few times and rinsing, but nothing improved. The jets in the pool are very weak when on the filter setting but worked better when set to recirculate.

Finally, I decided to wash the DE filter. I hosed it down and put it back in. After restarting the filter I saw water leaking out of the filter and decided to turn the system since it had gotten dark and I had work the next days.

I went out this morning to open it up to see what's going on and noticed the O ring wasn't sitting right. I repositioned it and closed everything up. Unfortunately, when turning the power on I noticed no water was flowing through the system. I tried the rinse, backwash, and filter positions on the multi-port but nothing seems to work.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Can you fill out your signature, so that we can see what equipment you have, and pictures would also be helpful. You can use my signature as a guide.

Also, when you say not circulating, is the pump motor running? is the strainer compartment full? is there any pressure on the filter? Since we are not there, we need as much information as possible to help you trouble shoot.

I'm not sure how to do the signature. I have a 48 sqft Hayward micro clear D.E filter. The power does turn on, but all I hear is the humming of the power. No water moves through. Strainer isn't full, and neither are the skimmers.

When I did the initial cleaning the water was flowing and creating pressure in the filter.

If just a hum, sounds like the capacitor on the motor may have failed. Put your motor information in your signature.

I agree with mknauss, it may be the capacitor, but it could also be a blockage at the pump. To check the pump for free movement (VERY IMPOTANT TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE PUMP) once the power is turned off, open the strainer basket and stick your finger in the pump and try to turn the impeller by hand. If it turns freely.

If the impeller turns freely, then I would start looking at the electrical portion, and troubleshooting electrical is dependent on your abilities and equipment you have (multi-meter). Again, it would be easier, if we knew what equipment we were trying to help with. At this point I do not even know if you have a 110V motor or a 220V motor.
