Just received an RJ60+ that I'll be installing soon. I have two manual timers, one of which isn't being used, and was wondering if there would be any practical reason to use it for the SWG instead of wiring it to the pump timer. Have no prior experience with this. Is it ever the case that you want the pump and SWG running for different periods of time? Or is it better to link them and use the SWG controls to manage its output in different seasons? Not much winter here in Houston but I can imagine that a lot less chlorine is necessary than in the blazing summer. Thanks.

If you are controlling the pump with a timer it is best to use the same timer to control the swg (providing the timer can handle the load). If you ever upgrade to a variable speed pump they have an internal timer but the external timer can still be used for the swg.

I bow to the experts, everyone else believes that with a single speed pump, it's better to keep it simple and power both the pump and SWG from the same timer.

There is a practical reason for using one timer for the pump and one timer for the SWG. Although it's not totally necessary, it is good if you can run the pump for even 5 minutes after the SWG is off to flush the cell with fresh water. I do not have the option, so I have the pump run time set up so that the cell is not generating when the pump shuts down, if I had two timers, it would be much easier to achieve the same results.

The down side of using the two timers is that it is possible to have the SWG energized when the pump is not running, but then the flow switch should not allow the SWG to operate. I think the probability of one timer failing is low, but not zero, but that is what the flow switch is to safeguard.

It is better to adjust the generation % up or down then try and run the SWG on a different timer then the pump.

I think that is totally unnecessary.
