SWG vs home Electrolyzed Water machines

In this time of Covid, lots of people are looking for ways to sanitize their houses and businesses. One of my friends has a machine that makes "electrylyzed water" that is a disinfectant that he's using to spray around his classroom with a sprayer. I did a little research and this thing uses salt and water to create this electrylyzed water, which it says is hypochlourous acid.

hmmm. Is this thing the same as a pool SWG? Same process, same result? Except smaller of course.

It’s similar. Basically it creates very weak and unstable “bleach”. Because the pH of water is so low, any hypochlorite that is created will breakdown in minutes. So they’re not wrong in their advertising, it’s just simply not a very effective process. And, worse, it gives a false assurance that you’re “sanitizing” when in fact, you might not be.

Maybe we will see the reemergence of home stills to make hand sanitizer ;) ;)

A lot of the local distillers in my area have retooled to make alcohol based sanitizer since they had to close their tasting rooms anyway. I actually helped one of my clients connect with a local distillery to get hand sanitizer because they couldn't find it through any of the regular commercial channels.
