SWG sizing... is this too small!

Building a 50k gallon pool in Dallas.
Builder speced a IC60 SWG.
is this too small?

It would do but does not give you much excess CL generating capacity. I think 60K is about as large as they have residentail SWGs. Some folks with large pools have put two SWG in.

Compare Salt Pool Chlorine Generators - Price - Capacity - Chlorine Output - Warranty Has some of the highest output but I don’t think many PB install them. You can install it after your build.

In Texas I would suggest using two IC60's. How they are plumbed is important.

Will you have automation? An Easytouch can only manage one SWCG. So one would be a base unit and the other you would adjust as necessary.

cc,

Just for reference... I also live in the DFW area... I only have a 17K pool and an IC40... I have to run about 50%, 24/7 to maintain my FC at the proper level.

Here is what I would do.. Install two cells in series. One cell would be controlled by your automation system and the other cell would run independently.. The independent cell would produce the say 70% of the chlorine you need and the automated cell could be adjusted up or down to produce the rest..

I guess another option would be to run the IC60 at 100% and just manually add chlorine when needed in the middle of the summer.

You are just setting yourself up for failure if you try to run a 50K pool on a 60K SWCG in Texas..

Thanks for posting,

As said its not enuff. The cell output is w a 24/7 runtime rating which u won't want to do. I'd run 2 cells too and have 1 be the workhorse at 100% and use the 2nd one w ur automation to dial it in. That's a big pool thank God u don't need to heat it

Should we do two IC60s or two IC40s?

Do two IC60s. Negligible difference in cost and gives you more CL generating capacity in case you need it. If one fails the other can handle the pool for a while.
