SWG Heater requirements

Hi all,
Looking to switch to SWG and will be replacing my 35 year old heater. (Just bought the house). Anyhow, looking at the Pentair master temp 400 and was wondering if the Salt is a reason to upgrade to the HD version (cupro nickel). It would cost $800 more net. (SoCal gas has a $400 rebate but the HD doesn’t qualify).

Welcome to the forum!
No. Low pH harms the heater. The very low level of salt in a SWCG pool has no effect.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

As far as maintaining proper chemical balance; what type of test apparatus should I be using (strips/liquid...)

A K2006C or TF100 from TFTESTKITS.net are the test kits we endorse. They will provide the accurate test results required to follow TFPC processes.
