After a very successful first season, Fall approaches and the inevitable pool closing draws nearer. While the PB is going to be coming back to close this first season, I have been wondering about the Intellichlor ic40 cell. We're in Northern Illinois, and winters can be brutal. Does anyone recommend installing a bypass when closing their pool for the winter? Since the Cell is a self-contained electronic part, and I'm wondering if it could possibly help avoid premature failure down the line?

If you close the pool, and do things like take the pump inside, why not do the same for the SWCG?
We don't know what this "Closing" think is down here...

My IC40 has lived outside in the NJ winter for many years. Cold had no effect on the electronics and the cell is fine as long as you properly blow out and winterize the lines.

I agree with AJ that the cell can handle it. That being said i bring my IC60 and pump inside for the winter because it only takes me 2 trips to the backyard and its piece of mind to not have electronics buried in a 3 ft snowdrift. Most of my friends, and also most who get professionally closed get a garbage bag as a outdoor cover. My heater which i would prefer to take inside goes in the garage because its too big, and after all that trouble, the filter might as well be in the garage too. Whatever pipes are left get plugged. Is my equiptment going to last longer ? I have no idea. I feel better with it all protected, none of it was cheap.
