Couldn't hurt to add a bag or 2 of salt ( not sure what size your pool is ) and get it up to around 3500.
Yes, it can hurt a Hayward system to have higher then ideal salt.
With a Hayward system the amps are proportional to the salt level. High salt draws higher amps. Higher amps heat components and the board. The Hayward boards have many failures due to burnt components caused by high amps caused by high salt.
