Liquid Chlorine
After finding this site i have gone to strictly using liquid chlorine and i am happy with the results. Now I am really considering installing an SWG system do to the height cost of chlorine. I believe in the long term I can save money with an swg system. I have Jandy equipment and Aqualink automation. So i believe my options are going with the an Aquapure 1400 or the Fusion Soft. As well i realize i need to purchase the aquapure user interface. I believe the fusion Soft would be an easier install as I think i can just replace my current fusion inground with the fusion soft and be done. However just doing a quick google search i could not find a place to purchase the the fusion Soft. So i may have to make piping modifications to install the Aquapure 1400. Do you guys have any suggestions on what path i should go and if you know a place to purchase a fusion soft please let me know. I want to try and make the change myself.

Another question is if i don't go with the fusion soft should i insert the new SWG in place of the current Chlorinator? I dont really see that i have room for another option.

I think your chlorinator is misplaced and should be before your POOL/SPA return valve so both the pool and spa can get chlorine when in use.

The chlorine in a spa can be consumed in less then an hour of usage depending on the bather load.

With the Aqualink you can set different SWG % for POOL and SPA.

Wow i am embarrassed to admit that i did not realize that the chlorinator was in the wrong place. It makes a lot of sense though because i do tend to get algae build up in spa. So it sounds like i have some re-plumbing to do anyway.

Ok I have don a little more research and understanding that i need to put the SWG before my Pool/spa return diverter valve, I am considering going with a RJ-60 now. This is for two reasons. One since i do not have much room between Heater and my pool/spa return divert valve, Circupool makes a nice adapter to vertically mount the swg unit. The other reason is that it is rated for 60K which should be at least double my pool size which i read i highly recommended. there are 2 things i would like to here this communities opinion on. 1) how important is it to stay within the Jandy brand so that it is compatible with my aqualink controller? 2) if i go with the RJ-60 can it be wired to the aqualink so that it turns on/off with the pump and how difficult is this?

Thanks again for the feedback and finding this site has been very helpful.

Not that important. Just an inconvenience to need to go out to the equipment pad to make adjustments to the SWG % output and see SWG status.

Once you get the SWG dialed in you make a % adjustment every 4-6 weeks.

2) if i go with the RJ-60 can it be wired to the aqualink so that it turns on/off with the pump and how difficult is this?

Wire the SWG power to your LOAD of your filter/pump relay and it will turn on and off with your pump.

Hayward Aqua Rite can be controlled by your Jandy RS system.

I was thinking a little more about this and considering where to instal the new swg. I have read that you want to turn off the swg in spa mode anyway so it doesn’t over chlorinate. My spa overflows down a waterfall so when in pool mode there is always a little flow going in. Is it better to install the swg before the spa return 3 way or after like where my current chlorinator is.

You seem to have missed what I wrote in post #4….

Ah ok. I’m with you now. So if I go with a swg other than Jandy when I use the spa I would need to just adjust swg % at the swg control panel when I use the spa. Which is a very rare occasion.

No, you don't need to adjust anything when you use the spa.

The Aqualink gives you two SWG settings for POOL and SPA and makes the adjustment for you when you change from POOL mode to SPA mode if you have a Jandy SWG it is controlling.

I went ahead and Purchased a Circupool RJ60+ and will install upstream of my pool/spa return valve in a vertical orientation. After reading more on the site i thought i would be better off with the larger SWG unit and deal with the minor inconvenience of the SWG not working with my automation.

Congrats on the circupool decision, but did want to point out that AquaPure can be installed vertically with no special pieces. There's also a valid install method where it forms a 90 in the plumbing. You can easily find the installation manual on line. It has detailed diagrams.

But don't get the message that I'm advocating for it. Mine is working fine so far. But it generates less chlorine (1.25 lb/day) and is reputed to have a shorter life than some others. My pool is fairly well shaded. I'm running it at 20%, 24x7 in the North Carolina sun.

You won't be able to adjust the per cent production via the iAquaLink app or PDA, whichever you have. For me this is a game-changer when away from home and a storm comes through or some other chlorine load peak.

No problem. The relay that drives the pump also drives the SWG. If you have a vsp, that relay's load side won't have the pump. Maybe a heater, cleaner booster pump, or other stuff that switches with "pump on." Maybe empty. You'll just need to ensure the VSP's RPM setting is always high enough to turn on the flow sensor of the swg. That's easy to determine by experiment.

Good choice! I'm also in the Houston area, similar sized pool, with Jandy automation, and I also went with a similarly-sized non-Jandy SWG. Very pleased with it.

This is my first summer with the SWG - I inched it from 10% in the off-season to ~45% by late June and have left it there since. It seems to be keeping up well with the brutal UV load of the past couple of months.

I haven't been missing the ability to adjust the SWG percentage via iAqualink. I do have my system set up to switch off the SWG automatically in spa mode, to avoid overchlorinating the spa (ideal would be to turn down the SWG % in spa mode, but this isn't possible to my knowledge unless you go with a Jandy SWG).

The 1400 cell should be able to fit in the same place as the Fusion.

The distance and unions should be the same.

Verify with Jandy to be sure.

Thank you for the information. Good to hear it’s working great for you . Impressive to only be at 45% with this summer heat. We cant even get a little cloud cover around here.
