Because the pool service guy didn’t know what he was doing (even less than me). The CH ended up being over 900 and the TA was very high-hence the pH swings, etc.I kept adding MA almost on a daily basis (probably an average of 28 oz per day). I thought I was being careful with the dilution and spreading of it but I think it was too much for the heat exchanger and I got copper staining. The PB recommended the acid wash. After joining here, and reading all the great information, I should have tried a heavy dose of Metal Magic first.
That seemed to take care of some staining that I was getting from the water exchange due to well water.
It’s been quite a chemical and hydraulic journey for me. I’m about beat. Thanks to everyone who’s been helping me. I sure would like to swim in it again sometime.
Pool service guy ended up knowing less than I did. His chemistry reports showed balanced water. I did pH and sanitation duties. I could never figure out why I had to use so much MA (about 28 oz a day) I chalked it up to curing plaster. I thought that I was being careful diluting the acid and spreading it out through the pool, but it needed up doing a job on my heat exchanger and the copper leached into the plaster.
The PB recommended the acid wash once the pool was filled back up, so that’s what I did. That was before I met TFP. All our water is from wells, so there are metals. There was some iron staining as well. Through the help of the experts here, I’ve finally been able to get my chemistry right and now it’s just this cloudy water issue.
I added the recommended amount of bleach, but after mixing in after 2 hours, I have a FC of about 21 and a CC of 1. We’ll see how it works out. I have the pump on the lowest speed so as not to jam any particulates through the cartridges. They are 5 days old and no real crud has been through them. I suppose after a couple of days, if it doesn’t get better, i’ll pull them out and inspect/hose them off.

Took a break to look at the filter cartridges. The one on the left has not been sprayed off. The one on the right had all kinds of milky water coming out of it until it was completely flushed.View attachment 100365

Took out my filter cartridges today. While not dirty looking, they were somewhat discolored. Took a hose aggressively to them and they cleaned right up. What came out had the same milky looking water as the pool. So the slam and filtering continues. FC is slowly dropping every few hours with CC reading of 1.0. Since I have a motorized cover, I can do the overnight test any time of the day. But it looks like the bleach is working on something.

But as they say on TV, wait, there’s more. Just before I started to brush, I noticed in one corner a little greenish film on each adjacent wall. Did I not slam long enough? I kept it between 16-20 until I got no CC readings and a FC reduction of less than 1 over a 12 hr. period (with the cover closed).
And I still can cloud up the water and it’s most easily seen by the lights when I rub the plaster with my hand.
My numbers today:

CC. 250
pH 7.6 and I added 2 oz of acid to bring it down to 7.4
Before I get myself into any more trouble, what do you guys think?
