Hello all,

I planning to have a FirstSurge™ Pro (FS140) - 140,000 Amp Surge device installed at my pool subpanel next week. My primary and only goal is to protect the pool equipment. I’m not too concerned with protecting in home electronics. I did read through the surge information provided by TFP which was very helpful. I do have one question, and that is how much additional protection to the pool equipment does installing an additional surge at the main panel provide? Again I’m only focusing on protecting the Pool equipment.

Thanks
John

There is no way of quantifying an answer to that question. It depends where the surge enters your electrical system and how it flows.

An electrical surge may come in from the main utility service. Or the electrical surge can come from a near lightning strike that enters your electrical system after the main panel or your subpanel. Also you can get more then one utility surge where the first one overwhelms your main panel surge protector and the next one needs to be absorbed by your pool panel surge protector.

So if you are wondering if having surge protectors in both locations provides more protection the answer is it depends and maybe.

Thanks for the info! completely understand there are unknown variables.

What if it came from the provider or from within the house itself?

Thanks

I have 3, a whole home one on the main panel, one on the pool panel and one on my AC system... That is not counting the 15 or so in the house on just about all my equipment... :)

No one can guess where it will come from and that is why I have one everywhere (y)
