Superflo VS Tripping breaker with error 02

Pump is wired for 115v, only thing on the line, 20 amp seimens breaker. Every few days the pump trips the breaker, usually when I stop it and then start it back up. After resetting the breaker the pump turns on, starts its schedule and is then fine.

In the manual the error says the line dropped below 99v. Looking online this seems to happen a lot to people, usually people who have the pump wired for 230v. Also not sure if they receive the same error when their pumps trip.

A common thing others have gotten for advice are to use a seimens breaker, or a pentair branded seimens breaker. I have a seimens, and there is no pentair branded one for 115v that I can find. People also say to make sure the pump is the only thing powered on the line and to have no relays.

I have an on off switch for the outlet, is that considered a relay? Is it possible for a switch to cause a dip in voltage if its going bad/has an issue? Am I wasting my time and should just have the thing switched over to 230v?

For most nuisance tripping stuff I've found it talks about the harmonics/noise confusing the GFCI, but they don't mention an error on the pumps.

Cheers.

Z,

I believe that the error is just the result of the breaker tripping... In other words the breaker trips, the voltage goes away and the error gets generated... I don't think the voltage goes low and that is want is causing the breaker to trip.

I have not heard of any nuisance trips of the IntelliFlo in the past 4 years or so.. it was a big deal at one time. I have never heard of of them in the SuperFlo VS..

I have no idea why your pump is tripping the breaker.. But I would make sure that there is no moisture in any of the connection points..

Some things you could do..

Change the GFCI breaker
Jumper the wall switch so you have constant power
Temporarily install a standard breaker and see if the problem is related to the GFCI or just something in the pump pulling too much current.

Thanks,

Jim R.

How long has the pump been running and when did the bkr tripping start?

Next, I would bypass the switch, unless it has been running fine as is for yrs and just started tripping.

Do you have a surge protection system for pump breaker? GFCI breaker do go bad and the more they trip the worse it gets.

You also stated that it seems to trip whenever you manually turn on and off; this could be a swtich issue bc you stated it's fine when I reset the breaker - maybe the switch is the issue

It was just installed, about 15 days ago. Started on day 1 and we called the electrician that did the work, he recommended switching to a 230v, saying that the pump works on both 115v and 230v, so if the 230v dropped it would still be high enough to run. We declined since that would basically be doubling the electrical work cost.

It has a GFCI breaker, no surge protection. When I turn the pump off and then on its through teh start and stop button on the pump, not by using the on and off switch that is wired to the outlet, I should have clarified that.

File a warranty claim with Pentair... have them replace the pump..

Based on limited info but per Jim's quote
? Either at 115 or 230, ALL VSP's should have a surge protector installed. If you're gone in summer for a week and come back to a green pool, you'll wished you had installed a SPD. The SqD HEPD80 is a great model...
