Sump pit depth

I was curious....for our inground pool that will be 6ft deep and a 3ft deep shallow end....how deep should our sump pit be? Our contractor just poured the footers to hold the steel walls in place and he said the sump pump would sit in a tube basically right on top of the footers? Is that deep enough? From the footer to the top of the steel walls is 35 inches so thats how deep our pit will be, i just thought the pit was supposed to be down about as deep as the pool was?

If hes doing gravel backfill that will work as a way to keep some water away from pool and a floating liner. But as you said going down to depth of pool is the best way and having good filter fabric wrapping all your clean stone and the stand pipe is the best way. It takes more time and money that's the issue
