Sugar Hill Pool Build. About to be on!

SWEET!!! That looks great! Have you started bonding with it yet? aka watering it to help slow down the curing.

It is time for your set of links! The first set is all about what to do and ask about to get a great plaster job. The second set is all about how to care for your pool after you get the plaster.

Now is also a good time to ask what test kit your PB will be providing so we can fill in any holes.

Thanks for the good words.

So my PB put heat blankets on it for 4 days. He said there is no need to water anything. It’s pretty chilly here in coastal VA.

I know this may sound dumb, but I am really thinking of paying the PB to take care of this new addition. We own a business, have 3 kids not sure I’m up for the pool maintenance at this stage in my life. (Maybe tho, sounds like a great job for tht kids).
We do not plan on closing the pool at all, as it’s right up close to the house. We would like it to have blue nice water year around. Probably just use the spa in the winter but I may hope in the pool to wake up in the mornings! The PB will only take care of pools they build, they do want $100 per week in the summer, winter months they said every other week is good. We’ll see about that avenue as we get closer.

Appreciate the links! And advice is much appreciated as this is our first pool.

How old are the kids?

I will tell you that pool "care" only takes mins a day when you first start taking care of it. Once you get the test down solid and learn your pool it not even something you need to do every day................................Just think of all the neat pool toys you can buy at $400 a month! OUCH! I don't even spend $400 a YEAR to take care of my pool.

If it’s that easy I’m in. Kids are 17,13,11 all boys. The oldest is headed to university so he’s out. My PB takes care of it for free for the first 28 days (probably to make sure the plaster is properly taken care of). We are putting wetedge premira stone in.

But, but, but..............will he or someone from the company be there every day??? Most only come once a week :( That is NOT often enough. The first 28 days are the most important to long life and appearance of you new plaster.

I have a link for you that from the manufacturer of your plaster:

Here is the link to the "start up card" the above link mentions:

Go ahead and order your own test kit as seen here:
Test Kits Compared

This way we can teach the 13 yr old how to test the water!

I know you are SO proud of your 17 for having a path in his life! Does he know what he is wants to study for?

No, I think the drawing just came out like that. They are both aluminum frame with what they call “super screen” which is tougher but really it’s just polyester screen material. The stand has the long end support beams 8ft apart. The clear view has the long side 12’ 36’ 12’. So the “viewing “ is a way less obstructed but the cost is about 7k more. I just keep telling myself we have come this far so I want to make this thing right. It’s going behind a new high end house build. I know what I want to do ……😂😎

Gotcha now. (y) I was torn on the apparent roof (which isnt one). If both are all screen, more/better view wins everytime.

Depending on the view you will have when looking out. If it is just another house/fence then standard. My question to you is this............how long will your view stay like it is? Who owns the land behind you?

What color is the aluminum framing?
The darker the color, the less likely the human eye will see it when focusing on objects or the view at a distance beyond the framing itself.

That being said, (cost aside) I do like the open look - if your view isn't going to change much, it may be a good long term option.

We own all the land around it’s a total of 14 acres on the water. It’s a peninsula with water on 3 sides. The land slopes down to the water with nice woods that we will be thinning out for a better view. I do think the larger viewing area would be nicer. The big bifold door under the covered porch is 20ft long 9ft high which will open the entire living room wall open with pool view.
The framing is black in color with black screen. Appreciate the input!

I've just jumped in here and your pool is looking great! One thing I have not seen mentioned is that most screen structures are not designed for any kind of snow loading. I don't know what coastal VA is like and if it gets much snow, but I don't think it takes much to collapse these cages. Not trying to be a negative Nancy, just want to make sure this has been considered.

So they say the aluminum structure will hold a snow load. The tough screen will hold a snow load of 45 lbs PSF. So I think we should be ok. Also we are coastal VA, have not seen snow in years. Every once and blue moon we will get a blast but it’s been a long time. The engineers are aware, said we should be ok at 45lbs PSF. Thanks guys I will post some more pics as this moves along. They are pouring the footer for the enclosure Tuesday.
