First time slamming. Opened pool up couple weeks ago and have a green swamp. It was a really warm late fall, winter and early spring in VA this year. Until last Thursday when my TF-100 test kit arrived, I was shocking according to pool store advise. My PH was 8.2. They said to add 7 pints of Muratic acid; which seemed like a lot so I added 3 pints. According to them my CYA was 5, so I added 2 lbs stabilizer. Since my test kit arrived, I have been shocking to 10 -12 FC. Color changed to turquoise color but not clear. I have used 20 gallon of chlorine so far. My CC seems stuck at 2 ppm. I read about chlorine lock, so I tested the ammonia with my aquarium test kit. It was through the roof at 8ppm. After lots of chlorine I finally have the ammonia down to <.25ppm. I have been testing the water after chlorine additions every couple of hours. Should I be testing it more frequent. My latest test results tonight after work are FC 2, CC 2, PH 6.6 (it went way down from 7.2 during SLAM), ammonia < .25 ppm. Seems like I have been stuck at CC of 2 for a day or two. Is the PH level wrong during slamming. The CYA was 25 when I started. Is that level non measurable during slamming? I also added Super Algacide (6 oz) during this process.
