Strange, intermittent pump noise

I’ve been noticing a strange, intermittent noise coming from my Intelliflo VSP lately. It typically happens when it’s running full speed and it comes and goes as shown in the video attachment. Is this a noise to be concerned about? It sounds like a weird vibration or second order harmonic of some sort. The pump is only 2.5 years old so I can’t imagine some bearing starting to fail already or am I expecting too much?

Edit: can’t upload a video here it seems. Here is a YouTube link:

ECE,

I am surprised that you have to run your pump at full speed to get your IFCS to work..

I don't hear anything unusual.

Make sure you don't let anything enter the fan suction area at the back end of the motor.

Thanks,

Jim R.

They still run in low speed mostly fine but I like to get the full blast every now and then to push the heavier leaves and junk that falls into the pool.

Regarding the noise, the video didn’t show it very clearly but I just heard it now and ran over to record it. You can hear it clearly in the beginning of this clip:

You have a lot of debris around the pump and maybe some has gotten into the fan area.

Check the fan to make sure that it is clean.

I would clean out the debris from around the pump area.

Maybe check the impeller for debris and replace the seal.

Can you post the RPM, GPM, PSI and Watts?

RPM: 3450
GPM: 60
PSI: 36
Watts: 2240 (I think… forgot what it was)

I regularly check the air intake in the back and clean any debris. I know a lot of bamboo leaves accumulate back there so I make it a point to check frequently. I took a photo of the impeller with the grille on and it looks clear. I can’t remove the grille at the moment since I can’t access the bottom screw without cutting the pump out (or getting one of those L-shaped Phillips screwdrivers).

The pump should still be under warranty with Pentair I think. I just wanted to avoid my pool builder service call fees since that ended 6 months ago. If it’s some premature bearing failure, I figured I can just get them to call Pentair and send out a tech.

Your pressure question was going to be another post actually. I’ve noticed that for some reason, I always thought my filter pressure was higher than typical values. Even with brand new filter cartridges in place, my filter pressure was showing around 30-35 PSI. I don’t understand why it’s that’s high on a brand new clean filter. At first, I thought my filter pressure gauge might be off but using the video you posted earlier, I was able to look up the pressure on the pump and it roughly matches the filter gauge.

What else other than clogged filter cartridges can cause the filter pressure to be that high?
