Storing muriatic acid after opening jug - outdoors okay?

I keep my MA indoors on a shelf up high in the laundry room until it's time to use it. I go through a gallon roughly every nine days during the summer when the salt cell is running.

I live in Phoenix - how quickly does MA lose its' potency if it is outdoors in the scorching heat? Should I not leave it outdoors at all? Since I use it immediately after opening, I estimate it sits outside for about 7 days before being used up.

Muriatic acid should not be stored inside, at all. Not garage, shed, etc. It will corrode any metals items nearby.

MA does not lose potency. The bottle can degrade from extended UV impact.

I store my MA outside in a 20 gallon plastic trash can with lid. If you have children, you may want to look for something you can securely close. But it does need ventilation.

MA should NOT be stored in a livable space such as your laundry room. Even when "sealed", the cap is still vented. Stored inside a garage or anywhere else with exposed metal is not good either.the vapors will rust exposed metal. Storing outside, in the shade, is your best bet. Several members store their MA in a plastic container that is ventilated - and away from metal and pool equipment.
