Hello, This is my first time posting. I've Been trolling the website for some time and thought I'd ask you all for some advice on my stamped deck.
It's Old Granite Stamp, no color or seal. This job was completely botched. look at the pics. There is one pic that shows 1 of 2 section where the stamp looks good. Problems are:
1. Stipples all over the place (too wet when stamped)
2. Looks like the cream was pulled up with the stamp.
3. Troweled over after stamp especially at the joints.
4. I have a huge birdbath and drains into the pool.

Am I right? Bad workmanship and the deck needs to be redone.

What do I do Now? The Concrete contractor thinks the job looks good and won't replace it. I think it's beyond repair.
The pool company cancelled our meeting to see the problem first hand and instead went off a 2min video deciding the concrete is ok.
I got the pool company to come and look only if I pay the 3rd phase of the build. Seems like black mail. I am financing some of the job with Lyon.
Anyone have any thoughts on my next step?

Thanks

Jeff

Welcome to TFP.

In California you have strong consumer protection rights. @Dirk has written about how he has won disputes with his contractors.

You have to follow the right process, give them an opportunity to correct the problem, create a good trail of documentation and evidence, and then if necessary take them to small claims court and hope the judge sees things your way.

Good luck.

But does the water on your deck drain into your pool?

Deck should be pitched away from your pool to drain.

Water management surrounding the pool is not the responsibility of the concrete installer. Deck drains should have been designed into the pool plan.

I think you mean to say water management around the pool deck is not the responsibility of the concrete guys. Water management of water on the deck certainly is.

Agreed. Getting the proper slope of the concrete deck is the responsibility of the concrete guys.

I think my stamped deck looks a bit different than this but not sure you will win that battle with the builder based on the finish quality. When they did my stamped deck (same stamp pattern) they actually cut control joints into it after stamping and didn't trowel them in like this. But that is likely a difference in the way people approach the work and adding the control joints. Is any stain going over it? I would think over time it will look fine the way it is.

The pitch and the water drainage is a different issue however - as others have mentioned the deck should either have drains in it or be pitched away from pool to drain into yard. It seems like some of your areas clearly do not. Good luck and I hope they get it resolved for you.
