Stains of some sort - need help

Not sure this belongs in this forum, if not please forgive.
Now that I've about got my water right... I need to tackle the stains in my pool. Not Sure what they are. Light brown... patchy.... covers a good portion of the bottom.
The weird thing is they were not there when I first opened the pool.
I added a 12 pounds of baking soda, and 6 pounds of ash to the pool 2 weekends ago. That same day, my father passed away and we left Town. I left the pool to fend for itself.
I came back to a VERY clogged filter, and stains all over the bottom.
They don't brush up, so I'm not sure how to handle.
The darkest area of all is right below one of the jets on my step.

Any suggestions?

Get your pool water in balance first. Make sure these number are all correct.

CC
TA
CYA

Once those are done and you are comfortable with how to maintain them, it's time to work on the stains.

They are most surely iron stains. Prove it by cruising vitamin C tablets into a sock and then weighing the sock down directly on the stain for Maybe five minutes. If the stain is gone or lightened, they are iron stains. Let us know.
 
Yes they are iron.... vit C takes it away

Looking through a couple of your previous threads these stains were somewhat present on opening. They are more visible now after having been exposed to air during the water changeout and possibly from adding bleach and soda ash prior to the changeout. Anytime you raise pH the iron is forced out of solution and sticks to the fiberglass.

Like was noted above get your chemistry balanced. Try to keep pH on the lower end of 7.2-7.4. Close those spa aeration knobs unless someone really wants to sit there. They will raise pH
monitor your FC after using the vit C it eats up FC

For future reference--> Fiberglass pools should never be drained entirely as they're very capable of floating and you live in VaBch where the water table is high.

Do you have a well point that lets you pump water out from under the pool as you drained it?

Question on the sequestering agent.

Should i I watch the pressure closely on filter throughout this process? From reading what the sequestering agent does, sounds like it might be picking up a lot of nasties that could mean pulling and cleaning filter fins.
