We received the speedstir for Christmas 2019. It sees only occasional use as we only bring it out when testing TA and CH. It worked fine (probably used ten times) until this weekend. The bar doesn't spin consistently....it will spin for a bit then tumble around. Batteries tested 1.5V. Still tried different batteries with no improvement. Any idea what our issue could be? I see the warranty coverage from Taylor is an abysmal 90 days.

@OTPirate is very good about discussing these issues. Curious, have you tried different tubes? Sometimes my mixing "bean" rubs some tubes more than others, Not a lot, it doesn't take much. But just enough to interfere with the smooth spinning we're used to seeing.

I have had the bouncing bean problem before when my batteries ran low. Sorry I am of no help since you have already checked your batteries. 
I've only used the graduated cylinder that came with the speedstir.
I've heard customers say that sometimes a cross shaped bar jumps around less then a pill shape magnet.

The bean tumbles a little in my SpeedStir occasionally. Never gaveit a second thought. What difference would that make in its functionality?

same here...new batteries fixed the wobbly magnetic bean back to a swirling bean.

Same here. I had a "spaz stir", replaced batteries and it went back to normal. I'd try a different set of new batteries.I have had the bouncing bean problem before when my batteries ran low. Sorry I am of no help since you have already checked your batteries.
It doesn't mix very well. Once the tumbling stops and proper spinning proceeds you'll see a sudden change in color.
UPDATE: I contacted Taylor. I was told the pills sometimes go bad. They sent out a couple replacements and we're back to proper mixing.

The Pill has some rough edges from moulding. I smooth them down and dont get the scratch on the tubes with the salt test anymore, also less jumping around.
Good to know! I think I have the same issue as replacing battery did not fix my issue.
Yep! you may have a "burr" on the pill creating a Hydrodynamic interruption when stirring. Smooth out pill as stated above.

Odd. I wonder how they "go bad"...isn't it just a magnet wrapped in plastic?

I used an x-acto knife in scrapping motion.
Its just metal, the magnetic field is created on the speedstir.
Then maybe the coating gets bad/damaged and water seeps in making them less responsive to the speed stir ?
