Our spa has older Jandy side controls (4 buttons and a light in the middle). As long as we’ve lived here, it’s never worked. Question is, before I go looking at the wiring and inside the box, is there anything I need to do with my PDA remote to “turn it on”? I’m assuming the light should be on?

The spa side remote is hard wired to the Aqualink panel. Nothing you need to enable to make it work.

Yes there's a little light in the center of the 4-button switch. If it's not lit up it's either not connected at the other end (see Allen's diagram - black terminal bar with 6 wires) or it's no longer functional. I just replaced my switch today actually - let me know if you have any questions
