Hey, just took over my son's pool while they are on vacation. What! Green! Alkalinity 0 ppm, free chlorine 0 ppm, CYA 5 ppm, Calcium Hardness 96 ppm, PH 8.0.
Baking Soda or Alkalinity Up first.? Then what? Thanks!!

In the last month or so I know he was using 3" tablets. But then started to use a LOT of liquid shock. I got his pool water tested @ American Sales today with their computer testing. I have the readout. I myself thought the reading did not look right, but?

We don't trust pool store testing. Notoriously wrong. We could actually do more harm than good. We don't want to do that.

If you want to help your son out, get a proper test kit ordered. Link-->Test Kits Compared

It would be safe to add 3ppm of liquid chlorine per day to slow the algae growth. Download poolmath, configure the pool, use the "effects of adding" to calculate how much liquid chlorine it takes to add 3ppm.

When your kit arrives, follow the SLAM process to clear the pool. You cannot slam safely without a recommended kit. Link-->SLAM Process

Hey guys, so I shocked the pool and added chemicals over the last week. As of today alkalinity 100, ph 7.8, cya 40. I have been vacuuming the pool daily. Cleaning cartridge filter daily, it went from nasty looking dark green to light green as of yesterday. But everyday I go back and there are still patches of algae I believe. What now? Thanks!20240728_120959.jpg20240728_120959.jpg
