So many choices! Need help deciding

GAHANNA
So my family is in the market for a new above ground pool. This will be our first go at a AGP or any pool at that matter. We will have about a 5G budget for this and are having trouble on deciding on which pool to go with. I can fit a 27' by 54" round pool, and leaning toward the traditional chlorine setup. We live in Ohio where the winters can get really cold and a good amount of snow sometimes. Was thinking of a all resin setup so i wouldnt have to worry about rust down the road, but wonder about having cracking or fading issues as time goes on. There are so many choices online and in the few pool stores we have in our area that you get overwhelmed with making a decision on what you need or want. So im looking for any input, advice or suggestions that someone may have who has gone through this same process. Just wanting to get the most out of the money im going to spend!

Hi, welcome to TFP! I have not seen alot of reports of resin walls cracking or fading. Hopefully someone with resin pool experience will chime in. Be sure you get a good test kit like a Taylor K2006 or a TF 100 so you can dose the pool properly.

I love my pool but only have a 20 year old AGP to compare it to. Just have resin toprails, steel wall and stainless steel section of wall for skimmer and return. I don't know about fading but the rails are a little duller now than when installed a year ago. I'm sure some amor all would make them shine up like new.

I am new here and don't know much about pools. But full resin pool costs are very high, it will it in to your 5 g pool budget, pretty fast. Leaving you to buy some lesser expensive things you really don't want to be lesser expensive. I know enough about pools to say this, right or wrong I have to say it. Full resin pools have many resin parts, but underneath it all the main body heavy structural parts are still metal. If you are worried about down the road rust problems, then you have to worry about this too. I guess the biggest problem would be the track holding the pool wall, and that being resin would ease some worry. Like I said I don't know. But I wonder about these things when full resin pools are discussed, or wonder if this is all just a ploy thing for pool makers to charge more money or to just increase their profit margins. Or and this is a big or, resin pools could be the best thing in the world. Don't mind be I'm just running my mouth. Just wanted you to explore all options

I have a Trevi Inovo AGP. The only metal on my pool is the wall. At least that is what I remember when I helped put it up. The track the wall sits in is resin for sure. I went with resin in case I decided to do salt water later on. I am happy with my Stenner pump set up though so I may never convert to salt.

Having researched pools for 3 years, inground, DIY, full construction, etc and losing a whole lot of income and switching to AGP, I think the Intex/coleman is probably the best value for the money. I just put in a 16x32 including a bunch of upgrades for under $2k. Only immediate things I want is the pressure cleaner bot for $60 and the magnetic light $60. Next year, i'll probably get a salt water chlorine generator, but I run an apartment complex pool, so they give me free chems. Can't say enough good about them for people on a budget and there are a lot of Intex owners.

Hello,
I live just south of you in Adams County, Ohio. I have a Doughboy brand pool that is 25 years old. It is all metal, galvanized steel. 28 foot, 48 inch high walls. Expandable liner that will allow it to obtain a depth of 7 feet. 8 inch top rails. I can walk on it and I weigh 270 ponds. I have no issues with rust and only replaced the liner about 2 years ago. It DOES have a bottom rail the wall sits in and also, under ground base plates the the upright stakes screw into. Not sure what the cost is now, but maybe worth a look.
