And it‘s that there is only one intake (the skimmer). I’m not used to that, and with this awful pollen season I have to watch my skimmer basket because it fills up very quickly, especially on a windy or stormy day when the whole neighborhood’s leaves find their way to my pool.

I don’t know if the larger version has two intakes, probably so.

I don’t know if there’s a solution other than keeping an eye on basket, especially after storms or yard work.

I have this problem too 😩 I don’t think any of the round pools come with more than 1 skimmer although i have thought about adding another one. My pool does have 2 returns.
My solution is:
*to only use skimmer socks for the finest debris (pollen/dust) i intend to try hair nets soon, perhaps they won’t impede flow so much my skimmer basket breaks
*Check the skimmer & pump basket multiple times daily in windy conditions
*Turn the pump off if i will be unable to clean them out regularly that day (luckily Robert the robot will quickly clean what falls to the floor)
* copious amounts of manual skimming in windy/ heavy debris conditions

Yep, I bought that huge pack of hairnets from Amazon last year. I like them better than the socks, they seem to let more water through.

I hope things will settle down once pollen season is over. This is the worst one we’ve had in several years. It’s also dry season right now, and since my yard was dug up for level and install, I’ve got a lot of dirt blowing around!

We have the same problem, but since my water is still in the 50's (had a freeze last week...) I put the solar cover on last night after two days of vacuuming and going through about 5 hairnets. It's not perfect, but it'll do double duty for us, since we wouldn't be getting in the pool over the next few weeks anyway.

+1 on the solar cover for pollen season. It would help you twice. You could broom everything to the side where you can reach it never seeing it hit the skimmer (on a step stool, you’ve mentioned being vertically challenged ).

And it would also take that little bit of edge off that you think is a chilly spring pool (which the rest of us think is lava). :ROFLMAO:

Ugh, I hate putting on pool covers! Maybe if I’m going to be gone and can’t check my skimmer daily...

I adopted this advice last year:

I actually use a 1 gal paint strainer net from HD's paint dept. I just turn it indie-out and beat it against my fence to knock the bugs and junk off then re-install it. Lasts me months.

They work great, hardly any flow impedance.

I think they all come with only one intake, even the really big round pools. I could be wrong but that is what I noticed. Doesn’t make much sense!

Any of the round pools (even my oval) have used the toilet bowl method of circular movement for decades with only one skimmer/return. It’s tried and true except for when there is all that extra pollen where you really just need a 2X sized skimmer to catch more of it between cleanings. But then again due to the curvature you can’t go with too big of a rectangle skimmer or that would cause new problems. It’s only been the last few years that the rectangle above grounds have been a thing and most of those are small enough to only need 1 skimmer.

So 2 skimmers might not ever become a thing if the owner doesn’t go out of their way to do it.

couldn’t you just cut in a 2nd skimmer a few feet away and T it off the original ? You have easy access to the outside plumbing. (With a step stool) 😁

Maybe a Solar Breeze type product that skims the surface and is supplemental to your existing skimmer? They are fairly expensive IMO, but it could give you peace of mind if you have to go to work and cannot check the skimmer multiple times a day during pollen season.

I'm having the same issue. I covered it with solar covers. Keeping an eye on the skimmers on a daily basis. I'm hoping that once pollen season is over, things will calm down.
