So Glad for this Site and Forum

I started our conversion from Baquacil to chlorine this morning, and boy am I glad for this site.
Even after reading all the posts and pictures, I am still in awe of the glorious shades of green and amount of Baqua-goo I am seeing.

My husband is in freak-out mode ("What have you done to our pool, woman?!?"), but being able to show him others who have successfully completed the process is helping significantly.

First pic is after first chlorine addition, which was dichlor.
Second is about 3 hours in, after a bleach addition, which REALLY got things going.

I am testing and adjusting FC hourly. I also made some diy skimmer socks from an old pair of tights and am checking/changing it hourly along with checking pressure and backwashing as needed. Anything else I should be doing? I also did a big brushing right after first chlorine addition.

Congrats on the progress, and welcome! For now, simply stick to the Convert Your Baqua Pool to Chlorine - Trouble Free Pool page and you'll do fine. But be patient, consistent, and don't rush the process. Finish each step before you move forward.

At some point, please include which test kit you are using in your signature. That way you don't get asked that question every time you post.

So I'm about 7 hours into the process and it appears that my FC usage rate has slowed enough that I held my level at 15 from one hour to the next. Still green, but the cloudiness is getting better, and the green shade has changed.

Be ready to replace you sand when the conversion is done.

I love hearing conversion stories when they tell us the pool is done converting and has never been so clear! You will love it.

Yes, liquid chlorine is THE way to go!

I would get a full proper test kit ordered sooner rather then later (that TF-100 really is the best deal)! You can also grab a "baby" starter HTH-test kit from walmart (does not have necessary FAS-DPD for chlorine), but it will give you something to start with!

You are going to love your pool after the conversion!!. I made the change 6-7 years ago and never regretted it once. I went from $1200 + ( I would stop counting) a year on chemicals to around 200. I never worry anymore about my pool will be cloudy!!

I found that I became a near expert on pool water by going through my conversion. Truth be told though, it's not rocket science. Liquid chlorine pretty much solves any issue, short of a hole in the liner or hardware. If the amount you are using isn't working, more probably will. Still, I haven't spent more than a couple Benjamins on chemicals in a given swimming season, and that includes the new house with a bigger pool.
