Hi all. I have a 7500 gallon pool. The basic plastic vacuum that I have from
Install 18 months ago is garbage. Lost all the wheels.

With the size of my pool I am not sure if I should get a crawler style pool cleaner or find another vacuum style to do it by hand? Any thoughts? Not finding any good reviews on basic vacuum head cleaners. Thx

Are you talking about a manual vacuum head or an automatic cleaner?

I have a small pool and found it hard to justify the cost of a cleaner. So I stayed with the manual vac for ages. But manual vacuuming is easy to put off till tomorrow and I wasn’t cleaning as often as I should. So the search was on. With a small pool I didn’t want to leave a cleaner in 24/7 and I know eventually I would a regret it. It’s easy to get suckered into the up sell, it’s an extra $500 for each extra feature. I didn’t manually vacuum the walls so I didn’t need a cleaner that could do that. I bought the most basic, a dolphin s50, with no buttons, dials or charge ports on the unit. One on/off button that’s out of the water. The basket needs cleaning every time it runs but it doesn’t get used much, once every two weeks maybe.

The Aiper S1 is around $500 sometime less on sale. It has a big basket. Throw it in the pool fish it out 3 hours later and your pool is clean. I run mine almost every day. I empty the basket around once a week.

Reading the aiper s1 review thread there were several hacks about upgrading the basket so the one thing I lashed out on was an ultra fine basket. But it’s a bit difficult to clean, stuff gets caught in the pleats. I’m going to switch back to the original and give that a go.

Have you tried the wireless charging dock? I think this is a big upgrade to the cordless cleaners, eliminating a possible water entry point.

Some of the fancier ones have wireless charging docks. The Aiper Pro also has pleated filters in addition to the basket. The mesh basket is clean enough in my pool. If I need super extra clean I still have my M500 but I have not used it in months now.

I have chosen to go in the other direction. I am looking at this robot as a consumable. It has a 2 year warranty and I get another from the credit card. So when I get 3 years out of it, I will be happy. Any longer is a bonus, but I dont expect it. As such I treat it as a tool and not a luxury. I dont rinse it off every time, or clean out the basket every time (unless there are a lot of leaves in the pool, like after a storm). I dont have to pull the Betta’s out of the pool since it is cordless.

For me it is very liberating not to care about it. It saves me a lot of time.

You should replace your manual vac head whether you get a robotic cleaner or some other type of cleaner or not. Its a staple piece of equipment.
There are instances where a robot or automatic cleaner just doesn’t cut the mustard like a swamp that needs some vacuuming to waste (if you have that ability) or if your cleaner breaks down.
I like my dolphins that i have had- i have the lowest model that still comes with automation mode. Proteus dx3/nautilus cc.
Basically an s50/e10 with automation mode and a longer cable.
Mine pretty much lives in the pool for 7 months a year and runs daily. Sometimes twice.
The nautilus cc was a refurbished unit from poolpartz and lived for 3.5 years. The proteus I picked up from fb marketplace for a song. I am happy with what I got for the prices I paid.
