I don’t think I would seal granite either. I would just have a good cleaning product on hand and try to remove any stains quickly. We were really in two minds about sealing. In our case we are doing it more to protect the grout than the stone. I think the stone itself would have been fine.
 
Oh and it has started to sprinkle here lightly. Sealant guy said after 4 hours it would be ok. It’s 3.5 so I have just messaged him. This guy works 7 days a week.

And as I type... He just replied saying it should be fine unless it’s heavy rain but he will come back next week to check on it. Love all our tradies!
 
Liz, is your travertine honed and filled? That's how it looks in the photo. Around here they usually use unfilled outdoors. It may have something to do with the temperature. I don't think you get hard frosts. We don't either, but most places in US do.

I am using unfilled tumbled travertine for my coping and deck. I have also gone back and forth on sealing but am leaning towards doing it. (Someone spilling red wine is not a possibility on my pool deck, its sort of an eventuality!) Do you think the sealing makes it slippery? I understand some sealers are formulated to not be slippery, but "grippy." Some brands with "shark's skin" texture. Did you consider slipperiness when choosing sealer?

Hi, our travertine is unfilled and tumbled, not honed and filled. The tilers did fill a few of the bigger holes when they laid the pavers. I can’t get on the pavers yet as it’s still drying, but it did seem to do what they say and penetrate the surface. There doesn’t seem to be any coating or anything sitting on top of the surface. When they were cleaned prior to sealing they did seem to look much glossier afterwards, so probably why they look honed and filled. I’d say that was due to removing all the dust etc that would have been on top. I will have a feel of one from the outside for our later and see if it feels any different than it did before sealing. Red wine would be one of those things that I would seal for. That’s not coming out easily if they’re not protected, especially from the grout.
 
So I had a feel and the surface feels the same. I feels a bit damp still which could also be from the little bit of rain last night, but no water sitting on top. I did notice after they cleaned but before they sealed that on certain angles that it looks a little shiny. As I said, that’s likely from removing the layers of dust and dirt on top. It still looks that way now. I would assume it will return to being a little duller again once it collects some dust. My thoughts are if it were any more slippery it would be due to the cleaning, rather than the sealing.
 
Made it home early from work just in time to see them prepping for pebble. Have double checked the pebble colour with them and we’re good to go. Excited to be here for this since I wasn’t for the concrete.

So am I! Acid wash and fill tomorrow so we will see then. They’re just finishing up about 3 hours total but my pool is small. They seem to have done a good enough job from what I can tell. I was watching over them frequently and asked enough questions to almost become annoying. I think it’s meant to look fairly unattractive until the acid wash.
 
So they gave it a hose of which exposed the pebbles lightly. The photos don’t do it justice due to low light. It already looks amazing! Can’t wait for acid wash and fill tomorrow. They said not to bother with a sock but I’ll be confiscating the hoses with metal ends and leaving them two hoses with plastic ends and socks zip tied to the end. I won’t be here I’ll be at work. Booked for around 10am so will come home to a filling pool! They said the guy doing the acid wash might just use one hose to fill but since we apparently have amazing water pressure (who knew?) I can chuck a second one in. I like there proviso though that if I do to make sure I put the hose in the deep end in the puddle and don’t turn it on until it positioned correctly. They had never seen the wall whale but said it was fine to use. On one occasion when I went out they said something like here comes trouble in a half joking manner lol. Guess I TFP’d the life out of them!

Last photo is the cover for the hydrostatic valve. Gives a better idea as to how the interior of the pool currently looks.

Thanks. Yes getting close and also getting cold! I think today was our last day of warm weather. Today was 28 and the next week is set to be no higher than 23. Oh well. I could have predicted this back on the 5th of December when I signed the contract [emoji23] Did you get your plumbing done today with your friend?
