Sacrificial masonry bit.

WOW it IS funny how things work out for sure! SO much good happening and it is all working out on the good side............well except for drill bits getting so stuck it has to be buried!

Yeah for hubby getting done AND it working!! SWEET!

Kim:kim:

What is coming next for your build? Looks like you are really getting near the end!

We are finally getting there. We have fence, electrical and heat pump going in next Thursday. At some point the pavers will be sealed. A few other little things. Once we get certification through for the fence the pebble can go in. Definitely getting to the pointy end, after what seemed like a never ending delay due to rain.

Glass for the pool fence was delivered yesterday. They will bring the timber with them next week when they install.

Outdoor tap finally went in today. Not looking forward to that bill since they had to use the special pipe further down to run under the concrete.

Hubby picked up the kanga and moved the huge pile of dirt that we have accumulated from all our work in the yard. 6m3 skip almost full in one day. He installed a new pad for the rainwater tank and somehow managed to get the tank back in place. Productive day... all while I was at work [emoji23] Things should settle down a bit now. A few jobs left to do but the bulk of it is now done.

Man+machine (aka big boy toy)=work DONE! Well done hubby!

GLASS??? You are one brave lady...........LOL I bet it is shatter proof and oh so thick!

Kim:kim:

Yes, hubby said he couldn’t sleep last night because he was excited about the machine. I think he was more excited about not having to do it by hand [emoji23] He’s still at it 14 hours later. Machine has been returned, as has the compactor. He’s out there reattaching the plumbing to the tank.

Glass fence because our pool area is so small we didn’t want to make it feel any smaller and also wanted an unrestricted view of the pool.... and the children in it. It’s at least 10mm thick and toughened. There are very strict regulations on the manufacturing of glass pool fencing here. This stuff isn’t going anywhere. There is is cheap and nasty glass sold underhandedly that does shatter. Not something to do on the cheap! Up and over the big boulders will be timber fencing to meet up with the timber boundary fences.

Now go looking for this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Rain-X-630023-Shower-Water-Repellent/dp/B01DXKZ7EM/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1524135024&sr=1-1&keywords=rain+x+shower+door

And find some good squeegees to keep in your pool supply box.

Liz, With you having kids I want you to start looking for and thinking about where you are going to keep the muriatic acid. No metal, not near the chlorine, lockable aka kid safe.

NO way about the cheap glass! WHY??? would anyone even take that chance????

Kim:kim:

Our installer has specifically said not to apply anything onto the glass. A good hose off once a week or after it’s been drenched is apparently all that’s needed. Plus, we now have a tap in a convenient location. I’ve heard varying things about applying the rain x Haven’t completely ruled it out yet.

Have been thinking about where to keep the MA. Possibly under the house in our subfloor but not sure if it has to be outside. Will have more of a think about it. Might just get a small lockable box just for it. We have an acid dosing system, so won’t need to access it too often.

Rain X is not too bad. It will not damage the glass in any way.

I used to use rain X on my motorbike helmet visor (when I had my sportsbike) and now just use it on my car's windscreen.

It is not permanent and probably last just a few months at most. Relatively cheap and fairly easy to apply.

I will be using it my fence.

Great to hear. Doesn’t sound like it will hurt. Might pop some on my car windscreen too.

I just caught up on all 12 pages of this thread and your project is looking good! I like the travertine coping and I think it goes well with the waterline tile (though I leave our project's color choices to my wife).

We're just going with concrete coping on our project but maybe we should have priced out other materials. Cost was a factor on our project as I tend to be... umm, "frugal". LOL

I can't wait to see how your pebble looks. "Salt and Pepper mini pebble" sounds a lot like what we chose ("French Grey MicroFusion").

Down here it's called hydrochloric acid and is the same as muriatic acid. Bunnings keeps the 5 litre jugs in the aisle with mortars and other small quantity concrete related stuff. Most Bunnings also have it in 20 litre somewhere out in the drive through area, but I'm glad I started with the smaller jugs while I was getting comfortable using it. I kept all my 5 litre jugs and decant the 20 litre jug into the smaller jugs. Great advice above to keep it outside somewhere in the shade and out of reach of little ones.

Great to see all your progress!

Thanks Jet. I was wondering where to find the MA at Bunnings. Good to know what it’s called here. I think I will stick to the small 5 litre jugs to start, with since Bunnings is 1km up that road. How close to metal can it be? Is 2m too close? Still trying to think of a suitable location outside for it.

Thanks Cantswim. Good move leaving the colour choices to your wife [emoji6] My hubby has no opinion re design, so I just show him what I like and he says yeah that’s good [emoji23] I think concrete coping will look great. The pools I’ve seen with it I’ve really liked. We have very small pool area so we weren’t looking at a massive cost compared to what it would cost for a regular pool. I had a look at the French grey and it’s beautiful. I think ours will have a green hint to it but looks to be a similar light shade. Which waterline tiles have you chosen?

Sounds like you both choose design stuff the way we do. If she REALLY can't decide, she narrows it down to 2-3 options and gets my input, then she makes the final decision herself anyway. But most of the time we don't even get that far. LOL

My wife chose NPT "Ridgeline Silver" for our waterline and raised bond beam tile. I have a couple pics of it installed in my thread.

My wife always jokes that if it were up to me everything would be black, white, or grey. She's probably right.

Now to make up an excuse to rent some heavy equipment that I can ride on ...

That’s exactly how it goes here too [emoji23] Actually makes for very easy decision making, with no arguing.

Will have a look at your thread. I’m sure there’s something you need to do that requires mini machinery! Mind you, the grass that had managed to grow back in the front yard in the two months since excavation is once again torn to shreds. Oh well. It’s progress and I no longer have a tank sitting in the middle of the yard.
