Slowly progressing...

The clear PVC is awesome looking. Don't know why something so simply just makes it look cool.
Thanks, it will be cool to see the water flowing through there.

Where did you source your #8 copper wire and clamps from? I will be needing the same.......

The wire came from here...

...and the lugs came from here...

I didn’t get as much done as I wanted to yesterday...had a few errands, took the wife and kids to lunch at Chick-fil-A (first time there, it was pretty good!) then I had to work at 7 at HD...just worked on the plumbing and put the front and rear coping pieces on while the pool was filling.

Today will be a very busy day.

It’s about 2:15AM EST and I just picked up and then took a shower about a half hour ago...it was a busy day!

The day started about 8AM with trying to get rid of the remaining sand pile...I’m just dumping it evenly around the bottom of the pool. I need to get it, and the tarp off the grass on the side of my house.

Before I got too sweaty, I took a ride to my new favorite store lol...Westerly Pool & Spa, to get a couple of 1 1/2” male hose adapters...$2.99 each compared to $9.87 at HD across the street!

I had to go to HD after to get pool salt, misc pvc fittings, and something else...

When I got home I started on the plumbing...I had a lot of threaded connections to tape and finalize, including the hose adapters I just bought.
It’s a good thing I inspect everything very closely before assembling it...the floating collar on one of my shut off-unions was cracked. After spending way too much time trying to figure out a fix, I just went back to HD to get another union so I could use the new collar on my old shut off. By the way...$6.44 at HD for the union vs. $27.99 for a new shut off-union at Westerly Pool & Spa...wow, lol
I also picked up 50ft of 12-2 wire, a GFCI outlet, and a 10/3 extension cord.

Back home and my father in law is there to help me with the electrical...I needed to hook up juice to a sub-panel that I mounted a while back to run a tankless hot water heater project...then from the sub-panel to the GFCI outlet outside. He did a fantastic job!...everything is hooked up and no breakers tripped!

So after we went over that plan, and I got him situated...I found out that the flexible pvc (that came with the pool) does not like the male hose adapters that I bought. There was no way I was going to get the flexible pvc on the adapters and then clamp them.
Guess what?...back to HD to get a few 1 1/2” threaded adapters so I could glue the flex like normal...unbelievable!

Then I noticed the skimmer that came with the pool was cracked...as I’m scraping all this sealant off around the flange. Back to Westerly Pool & Spa for a Hayward SP1091LX skimmer kit, it’s great having them 10 minutes away!

So I spent the end of the day redoing plumbing that I already did!...it’s great, I love doing things twice! lol

That sounds like a solid 6 pack day! That is how we judge a work day around here. From 1 beer to a whole 6 pack.

NO job is just one trip to the store and we always have to go back for ONE tiny, little piece that is NEEDED to finish the job

So why are you using flexible anything? This is a real question. I THOUGHT flexible is not as strong/good as solid. I know you know what you are doing so want to know your thoughts.

Haha...if I did drink (was never my thing) I think it would have been a 12 pack day! lol

Yup...it can be ridiculous, and sometimes annoying lol

I’m using it because I had about 20 feet of it that came with the pool and I couldn’t see just throwing it out. It glues together just like solid pvc, you cut it with a hacksaw just like solid pvc (at least I do lol) and I just needed to get the filter going as soon as possible!
I’ll probably change it up next season anyway...it’s not as neat as I would like it to be lol!

Oh did I tell you we were having my 8 year old’s birthday party today?...lol...he turned 8 on the 21st. I was still working on the pool when people started showing up! lol

Well, all the kids were in it having a blast!...it was great!

I just need to figure out a more permanent solution for the ladder, and backfill around the pool.

I did the bonding today too...

A 8 yr old party??????????????? do you have any water left in the pool???? Fun times!

Are you going to do any kind of deck by the pool?

Backfill=large black pipes with holes in the top of them and sock around them to keep the dirt out............ gravel all the way around and the hose going to daylight way over there.

Yes!...eventually I want to put one up, still in the planning stages right now.

So funny that you mention that lol...I was just looking at those drain pipe sleeves last night at work!

If you read the package it says ‘no need for special gravel backfill’ ...I know what gravel backfill is, but what is ‘special’ gravel backfill? lol

I would assume drainage gravel. We installed a ton on this recently but got the ag pipe (flex pipe) with the sleeve already attached. Hubby has installed in the past in other areas and they have worked well. He just lined the bottom and side of the trench with weed mat adds some drainage gravel lays the pipe fills trench with gravel then whatever you’re having on top. In the past it’s been grass. The drainage he did around the pool area we used a certain sized river rock as the drainage gravel as we wanted it to look good and weren’t putting grass over the top.

Yeah what they said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ LOL

Even with gravel some dirt can/will work it's way down to the pipe but a lot less than if you do not have the gravel. That sock looks like it will really work to keep even the fine stuff out. I wonder how long it really lasts before rotting? Here is hoping a LONG time!

From the Q&A page from the manufacturer...

Q- How long will the Drain-Sleeve® fabric last in my application?
A - We guarantee the Drain-Sleeve® fabric for as long as the pipe and sock are in the ground out of direct sunlight. The fabric should last around 100 years out of direct sunlight.

The only reason I’m considering this option is because I don’t have the time or the money right now to go get a load of gravel, nor do I feel like shoveling gravel, lol...I can get the pipes and the sleeves right at work...so the convenience factor is huge and this stuff isn’t a lot of money! lol

I always thought you were supposed to put the holes of those pipes on the bottom so that dirt and debris cannot fall into the pipe. I suppose the sleeve would help but again why not just put the holes on the bottom?

It sounds like you’re referring to the solid pipe with actual holes drilled in it, I would be using the black flexible perforated stuff that has slits cut in it with a sleeve on it.

I think if you put the holes on the bottom there really wouldn’t be any drainage. The water wouldn’t travel down the pipe to where you want it but instead just drain into the ground.

Oh, I thought I read above that you were using the drainage pipe with holes in it (not slits).

It still drains with the holes in the bottom. The idea is it is in a french drain sitting on gravel and when the water level in the gravel rises high enough the water would be going into the pipe from below and start flowing. And with the holes on the bottom, dirt and debris will not fall into the pipe and clog things up.

Makes sense...thank you!...I guess I was just thinking that the water will only come from above the pipe, not below.
