I noticed my pump taking longer to prime...and even after stopping it for three seconds I would take two minutes to reprime and kick in full blast. When it's running there are a few bubbles visible, spinning around in the top of the strainer basket. I also noticed when the pump stopped there was an fair amount of water spitting out of the stainer basket top between the cover tightening screws. More water than I have ever seen. Checked the lid strainer basket housing gasket and made sure it had no debris. I tried some PTFE lube-sealer and the problem was still there, seemingly not as bad. Assume it's the gasket. Any other ideas? Certainly don't want to make the pump work any harder than required.

If water can spit out - air can get in. Start with the gasket and inspect the lid for any potential cracks especially around the tightening screws. I’ve seen a couple of Sta-rite lids that actually aged enough where water would spit out the center of the lid due to hairline age fractures.
