Slaming

According to the SLAM instructions:
Test and adjust chlorine levels as frequently as practical, but not more than once per hour, and not less than twice a day. Chlorine additions should be frequent, especially at the beginning. Algae and other organic debris will consume chlorine very rapidly at first. As things progress, you will lose less chlorine each cycle and can add chlorine less frequently.

been slamming my pool now for 4 days keeping at 15 to 25 FC, now when do I let it drop to the 7? Still some alge seen on bottom, I brush it every day. Should I keep the salm at 15 to 25 for a couple of more days?

Should I be checking all the chemicals and adjusting them during a slam?

Hi Walt, You need to pass the 3 criteria to be done with the slam. SLAM Process

Your SLAM level should not be a range it is an exact number based on your CYA level. [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] What is your last tested CYA level?

You will not need to test anything other than FC during a SLAM, no need to waste reagents while slamming.

I am using the Non SWCG chart , my cay at start was 60 and I targeted Fc shock of 24
my water is crystal clear
I have visible algae
Will do a chlorine loss tonight

When I try to maintain 24 FC it takes about 4 gal bleach and over night it will drop 13 FC I do not have the time to check it a couple times a day,

Hopefully your overnight test will show some improvements from the previous test. It sounds like you are killing it faster than it is multiplying so hopefully it won't be much longer.

Remember that the pool is safe to swim in when you can see the bottom, pH is between 7.2-7.8 and FC is between your min and Shock level for your CYA.

You can only test pH when FC is below 10, that is why you should lower pH to 7.2 at the beginning of the slam.

ok my overnight test is in, 3 gallons of bleach last night to get it to 25 fc and this morning it was 15.5 fc added 3 more bottles of bleach, will keep going until fc stabilizes at 24 will check it again tonight after work.

I forgot to say I am still on Freshwater, new pool plaster after everything settles i will convert back to salt.
