We have started the Slam process Thursday night adding liquid chlorine. Our CYA starting out was very high at 80 which we know the best way to lower that is to drain pool 1/2 way and refill. However not really feasible for us and also understand that the slaming process can still be achieved but will take longer. So my question is do we just keep adding chlorine each day, vacuuming, backwash/rinse each day until the water is clear? And approximately how long will this process take?

You should be testing several times per day and raising your FC level back to 31ppm. Brush as often as possible.
The process can take several days to a couple weeks depending on how bad it was and how diligent you are at maintaining the SLAM level FC. Sand filters take longer to clear the water.
