SLAM with solar blanket on?

Hello everyone.

I started SLAMing my pea soup pool about two weeks ago. At the time my CYA was 20, which though low, was nice to not need as much chlorine, (especially since I've so far gone through about 25 gallons!) I have some trichlor tablets left over (enough in total to raise CYA by about 14) so filled up the floater and keep adding one whenever there's enough room. I re-tested CYA yesterday and to my surprise it went _down_ to something like 10! (Scale stops at 20, so just a guess. Why would there be such a decrease?)

Since I don't yet have any stabilizer to add manually, are there any detrimental effects to leaving my solar blanket on during a SLAM? Other than missing out on free UV oxidation of course. I notice a small amount of "suds" whenever I lift the blanket to add chlorine and wonder if I'm trapping gasses that should be vented. My water is still quite cloudy (still can't clearly see the bottom of the shallow end) but it's improving a little bit each day and I just wonder if things would go faster if I added enough CYA and left the blanket off.

Thanks for your attention and the great people here!

The solar blanket will trap the CC created. Not a big detriment, but you will need to remove it for a day or two before you try to test for CC. Also, it is pretty hard to brush the pool very efficiently with a solar blanket on the pool. I would personally remove it, and add 20 ppm worth of CYA granules. You are best to have 30 ppm CYA in the water to do a SLAM. Read the SLAM Process
