SLAM/Water Exchange?

This is the first time in 3 years since using TFP method that I've had to do a SLAM in the middle of the season...Had to leave for a few weeks due to my Mom's passing.... came home to a cloudy pool and a few streaks of green on the liner.. All numbers were in normal range, except CYA was a little low at 60... I added stabilizer to what I thought would bring up to 70 ppm (in hindsight, I should've waited).

I started SLAM 5 days ago and pool is crystal clear, however, I cannot pass OCLT and the CL levels wont even get to SLAM levels, despite dosing the amounts in pool math..

So, Either my CYA is higher than I think and I need to SLAM at higher levels or do a water exchange... Obviously something is still there or I wouldn't be losing so much chlorine and I would be passing OCLT...

What would you do?

Hey Ribbod !!! I'm sorry for your loss.

Do you verify you reached target after adding ? Weak bleach will get you everytime if not.
If you still have a problem passing, you need to go on an algae treasure hunt as it's being reintroduced somehow. You cleared the water but there is old water or algae somewhere. The ladder rails, light niche, all up in the skimmer and the foam behind the weir door are frequent SLAM extenders.

Also, did you brush like a mad person ? Algae growth a biofilm over itself to protect it from harsh environments. The walls may have been many layers thick and need just as many rounds of brushing. Each swipe pulls another layer of protective film off and the now exposed algae dies. Lather rinse repeat. If done a couple of times everyday during SLAM, you usually get it all before the water clears. If you haven't brushed a bunch of times already, have at it.

Looks like you need to update your “signature” so we can see details on your setup.
im new too but I think CYA of 60 is plenty. To high and you need more chlorine. I don’t have pool math so I can’t see your test results but you would new FC at or above 24 with CYA 60 For SLAM. What’s your FC?

Yes, and Ive reached Slam target maybe once! That is what is perplexing- it def. could be age of chlorine! Or higher CYA levels.... And yes, brushing.... I dont have any lights or steps and have checked the obvious ladder and weir door...

Is my signature not there? Weird... I see it on my end - at this point, I am goign to SLAM at 80 CYA which sucks... or i could dump some water ... Last test was FC of 26.5 - SLAM level is 31 - will check after this rain storm passes

My signature should be there... Yes- CYA of 60 would've been perfect but I raised before I realized i needed to SLAM... I know what to do, as I have to SLAM every year upon opening, just more challenging in the heat of the summer on top of higher CYA

Yes. You touch / hover over your Membername and the Poolmath Logs link shows. No need to put it in the signature.
