Chicken before the egg....
New pool owner as of last year. Fiberglass 14,000 gallon inground installed with cartridge filter. Water crystal clear all of last year and on startup this year. Kids complained of eyes burning so I made the mistake of taking water into pool store to have tested. $100 later I’m adding 2 pounds of shock and 5 pounds of hardness decreased along with 25 pounds of baking soda.
The next day cloudy water and brown staining all over the pool.
Back to pool store. They caused this so now they can fix it right... they say high copper level from gas heater caused the staining. “Stain free” process to remove stain. Surface stain lifted. Water cleared. Horrible stain in deep end. Guess it all settled. Stain free round 2 with metal free added. Better result. Few days later back to same. Bought the CU later. Tried again.
Then discovered this forum. Bought a Taylor kit. Testing water last few days to see where I’m at.
Chlorine is staying below 1. So I turn the 3” tab feeder up to 4 with 3 tabs in to hopefully slowly increase FC levels without bringing worse staining.
Staining now back over surface and I’d like to use stain free to lift then jacks magic blue stuff to sequester and with their filter stuff to trap.
Question is do I SLAM first to clear water. I’m assuming my FC level is staying low because it’s being eaten up my algae hence the still somewhat cloudy water.
Or do I clear stain first since the FC level is where it needs to be for stain removal process.
If I clear stain first it says not to shock for a week. With water already cloudy I don’t want to set myself up to have super cloudy water after stain removed and not be able to SLAM.
anxious to hear the groups thoughts.
