Hi There- I am currently SLAMming the pool after stain removal.
FC is kept between 12-16ppm when I am awake using 10ml method.
CC<0.5ppm
CYA 35
Here are the OCLT results. I started SLAMming when OCLT failed (8-4ppm FC)
7/5
8pm- 15.5ppm FC
6am- 11.5 ppm FC

7/6
8pm- 14.5ppm FC
6am- 10 ppm FC

7/7
8pm- 16ppm FC
6am- 10.5 ppm FC

We had alot of rain and I am going out of town next week for a bit and will have to rely on girlfriend to keep this going. It's coming down to 2 gallons 7.5% bleach per day to maintain SLAM

Is the above "normal"- pool is crystal clear

You're losing a lot of FC overnight. Something is in there somewhere. Besides algae, it is possible the stain removal process (ascorbic acid) may be consuming chlorine. Have you been doing all the tasks on the SLAM Process page? Also removed any portable items and perhaps the pool light is if is installed in a niche? Do your best to maintain the FC SLAM level until you leave. It may stabilize soon.

Would tend to agree with Texas ^ - It took about a week to rid the pool of the AA once stain removal was complete before the Chlorine would start to stabilize. You never know, but highly recommend that treatment in the winter rather than the summer when algae would tend to be 'less' aggressive due to cooler temps...

Thanks following all the steps- the pool light is embedded (not coming out). Ascorbic acid is gone by now (or should be)- i will repost on Saturday

Thanks!

Also you round up to 40cya - so maintain 16ppm fc as often as u can. Especially at night when you’ve taken the sun out of the equation. & like mentioned above check all your nooks & crannies - algae is sneaky!

Does it matter if the pumps runs during an OCLT? Girlfriend let FC go to 4 ppm today while I was out of town yesterday/today- it's still smoking hot decrease-- I have it at 18ppm FC now and will see how it does.

This keeps up and I may just backhoe it :) will be cheaper in long run

6am- FC=9.5ppm so the drop in FC is going up. (dropped 8.5ppm- that's double what it was) Only other thought is the cartridge filter is somehow n algae bed and needs replaced but I clean it every month prior to this and have every week since removing stains- it looks good to me.

I also checked PH- it was screaming high so despite the SLAM instructions I am going to add Muratic acid and maintain 7.2 and pound it with algaecide and see what happens

Reminder- Ph readings are not accurate at fc levels above 10ppm - which is the reason for the slam recommendation of adjusting ph before starting the slam process. So long as you were @fc of 10 or below when checking its ok to adjust then carry on w/ SLAM Process

Are u checking that your chlorine additions are resulting in the amount you expect? Some folks have been having issues with less potent chlorine than listed on the bottle.
Also do u have a ladder? They are known algae holders as they can contain gallons of stagnant untreated water. The algae is hiding somewhere. What day did you do the stain treatment?

Yes- for every 121fl oz of Publix 7.5 disinfecting bleach - I get 4 ppm FC increase. It guaranteed but I test anyway and this is how it pans out

The FAS Chorine test confirms FC goes up 4 ppm for every 121Floz of Publix 7.5 disinfecting bleach

No

The algae is hiding somewhere.

Exactly so my approach is Nuke it. Complete Insanity=keep doing same thing and results get worse

What day did you do the stain treatment?

Right around Jun16th. This forum does not have a "Find your messages" function but that is about right

Here is what was done
- Added Mercuric acid to the PH down to 7.2
- Added 32 oz of in the Swim algaecide 60 plus (this will increase Ph usually .2 or so based on previous adds
- Added 3 x 121 oz (363 oz total) of Publix 7.5 bleach. This will increase FC to 21- I will retest here in about 30 minutes

I understand your frustration but going well over slam level for your cya only donates more chlorine for the sun 🌞 to consume & risks damage to equipment/surfaces. Slow & steady maintaining wins this race - your slam hasn’t even been going a full week & you’ve lost a little traction by having to be away but the weekend is here now so checking & replenishing every few hours is what will get you ahead - not “going nuclear”.
Algaecides like polyquat 60 are helpful in preventing algea but aren’t real helpful in killing it once u have a problem. They are also broken down some by high levels of chlorine this is why if it is used at closing it is recommended to let fc levels drift down some from slam level before adding polyquat 60.

Hi All Here are the results

FC=20.5ppm (as expected)
PH=7.2- yeah I know its inaccurate and if it is in fact acidic I consider that a plus
TA=100

Appreciate the link to the search URL but says page not found. What I was alluding to is typically in forums, under your profile there is an option for "My Discussions" or "Discussions I started"- that does not exist

I leave out a town again Monday evening but for a long haul Wed-Sat. I may hire a neighbor to add 121 oz bleach every 12 hours if I still fail OCLT

That is odd. Link works fine for me.

There is. Click on your Member name. Under Messages, click on the number. All your messages will show up.

Or, click on the Hamburger menu in the upper left. Go to Forums. That drop down has a link for Your Threads.

Sun started to come out so grabbed a 10ml sample

FC=12ppm so in the course of about 3.5 hours I dropped from 20.5 to 12ppm FC- suggestions?

Pool is clear- no ladder-cleaned filter this AM- no visible algae

Adding- put another 121 oz Bleach in - will take it to 16ppm FC - will confirm here in 30 minutes

FC=16ppm as predicted

So I lost 2.5ppm/hr on a cloudy day

This means if I add another 121 oz of 7.5% bleach I will go to 20ppm and should be at 15ppm in 2 hours. I won't retest to verify 20ppm.

Will post back after @4:00EDT where I should be at 15ppm

If your CYA is 40 no reason to go over 16ppm of FC. Just add back to that point frequently if slamming.

You have algae hiding somewhere if it looks clear but are failing the OCLT. Can you show pictures of the pool from all sides? Maybe we can spot something.
