SLAM timeline

Here are pictures- the Polaris is brand new- no algae on bag etc. I check the autofiller I made no algae. Some spot on the bottom are burns from Vitamin C tablets when i first used them to remove bad stains a couple years back.

Hi Texas- I was told not to remove the light as it may break/can't put back in place. I looked at a multicolor LED once and was told leave it alone. It's the original pool light. SO I got a toothbrush and there is a little play in the light bracket and I jammed it in the back and there's algae there- see picture

7/10 4:00pm FC=16ppm I will hold here and retest at 6pm- I am going thru test liquid like crazy so I ordered the 2oz from amazon

I found out the light actually can flip up and blew it out with a hose- algae went everywhere- picture attached. I plan to go into the pool with toothbrush and scrub the inside- that cool?

There you go! :goodjob: That may have been it. Leave the light open or place it on the deck if you wish but with power OFF. Clean the niche and allow chlorine to get in there for a day or two. Now let's monitor that FC drop in the next day or two.

Ok I have the light switch and will leave that off instead of throwing the breaker- looks like to upper screw got loose? i will investigate further then post back- Thanks a ton!

Also decided to put the 2 mostly used Trichlor pucks into the lighting recess to make sure FC is high in there

The light was not it it was the main drain (is not functional) Picture does not do it justice. It was like charcoal dust- I think I will have to buy goggles and take it off to clean

I wouldn’t put a puck in an enclosed space. Trichlor is really acidic. I would instead just keep at SLAM levels and brush it out really good until there’s no risk of algae there.

I hear ya on the puck- these are "leftovers" and should be gone overnight- I doubt they will contribute to FC given the size (about the size of the bottom of a tea cup and maybe 1/4" thick)
FC=16ppm and all visible debris is out from Polaris and cleaned the filer as well
The main drain has some rocks in it - not sure why and a cover with holes- wondering why instead of solid.

Pump is running- keep it on or turn off for OCLT?

FC=15.5ppm (YAY!)
CC<0.5ppm (10ml method so not exact)
Water is clear.

I assume I am done. If so, I want to figure out how much FC I lose without the Trichlor tablets as I want CYA to stay where it is.

Now I have to figure out how to keep myself at bottom of pool to screw the drain cover back on

Used a 20lb dumbell to keep me down but all back together. Question on the light- is it normal to have a gap between light and pool like I had in the picture? The screw is all the way in .

Congrats on the FC holding! :goodjob: That's a bit of a gap on that light. Has it always been that way? Do you have a lens gasket installed?

As for the FC and CYA, once you have the CYA where you want it, pull the pucks and go to liquid chlorine which will probably be added daily until cooler weather arrives. The FC will fall below SLAM level on its own and should stabilizer around the 5-7 area. Always refer to the FC/CYA Levels. As long as you aren't losing more than 4 ppm per day you should be doing well.

Whoo Hoo!! 🥳
I say hold slam for 1 more day just to be on the safe side.
After that be sure to maintain the high target for your cya according to the chart
FC/CYA Levels
This allows u some wiggle room for heavy bather loads etc. without ever skirting minimum.

I decided to let FC come down give my scheudle- see other post.

yes I have a gasket- I looked up Inyo pools and there is a replacement but I I can push the assembly flat- but it pops out again. I think the lens gasket is to protect the bulb- not to seal around the pool per se- agree? I have been told not touch the light by the previous owner and pool guy who verified that the bottom drain was epoxied shut a year ago.

I have a house party the 24th and all for trying to impress with an LED but at my age- wisdom says quit while you are ahead- take a breather - do it after the party

I thought of that- However I leave for an overnight Mon-Tues and today is a bright sunny day....and I am on my second bottle of the test liquid with the large 2oz coming Monday ( I fear I will run out). Once SLAM is done, I am thinking of reverting back to the TC 5 drop test and making sure that stays slightly >5ppm and then check every week with the FAS kit.

I will retest at noon and post back - if it drops >3ppm I will maintain 16 FC another day

Where my head is at is that I know 121oz 7.5% bleach yields 4 ppm FC, I hopefully can get to the point where 2 adds per week is sufficient. Texas Splash said add Chlorine once a day- hopefully it's not 4ppm FC worth- that would be $35/week

7/11/2021 12pm EDT
FC=11 ppm
CC=<0.5ppm
CYA-30 (from 35)

That a typical FC drop coming off SLAM (~1ppm/hr)?
