SLAM timeframe while passing OCLT & 0 CC?

Well this is back. Never been close to minimum. Ran up to SLAM a couple days ago and as soon as I even get half way the dust is gone. Ran SLAM again for four days passing OCLT 100% and as soon as levels come back to normal the dust comes back. I am thinking this is mustard algae. Current FC is at 8.5 and I passed OCLT again last night. What should I do?

Ran to pool store to have them double check my CYA as I always double check it before slamming and verified it was at 60 which is what I was getting. Phosphate were at 3300 at what point should I do anything about that?

If you believe you have mustard algae you should maintain 15-20% of CYA for your target level.

Also, if the phosphates are that level, you can use a quality remover. Orenda is preferred.

They state their CYA test is good to +/- 25% in TFP range. An 80 would report between 60 and 100, on a properly/recently calibrated machine with a fresh test disk. It could theoretically worse than 25%.

It doesn't matter how many times they agreed with you. This time may or may not and will only confuse you if it doesn't.
Never been close to minimum
Raise your min because it appears your pool is telling you that you need a higher target. I target 8 to 12 and adjust the cell outside that.

There are also some several day gaps in your poolmath. 3 days is enough for an high loss event to put you in the red, and make it back up before you notice.

I caught my cell off 7 or 8 times last year after big storms. If the unit runs its self test during or for some time after a big storm before its well mixed, it'll shut off for 12 hours.

So just maintain a FC of around 9-12 and that will take care of the mustard algae?

Have you read Mustard Algae?
There is a link to a chart for Yellow/Mustard FC levels. It states that you need to maintain a higher FC over a longer period to eliminate that type of algae. It sounds from your description, if you maintain a higher level of FC, it stays away. You may have to maintain that level for weeks, even months.

The reduction of phosphates, if your level is in the 1000's of ppb, may help.

Ok just read it. Question though. I dropped my PH to 7.2 and brought FC to SLAM at 24FC but since as soon as I elevate my FC the donuts disappears and I can pass OCLT how long should I hold SLAM until doing the final mustard Algae SLAM at 34FC for 24 hours? Dust is minor and only on seams and a couple dime size spots but I want nothing to do with any algae. Thanks!

Once you pass the three criteria for the regular SLAM, then do the 24 hour MS SLAM. Then hold at MA target FC for several weeks.

On night six of keeping a Slam. Doing my first OCLT tonight. There was still a slight amount of dust on two of my liner seams this late afternoon when I got home from work. Been getting FC 3x per day. Seems to be alot of mustard algae posts lately. Hoping to knock this out so we can have neighbors over to swim on Sunday. Any advice about trying to swim Sunday? Try to do MA level before or after, left FC drift down for a day, don’t swim at all?

You can safely swim in a pool as long as the FC is above the minimum and at or below SLAM level based on your CYA. You must also be able to see the bottom of the pool in the deep end of the pool.

Mustard Algae if very rare. Not likely that is what you had.

It's newb influx time coming in with poolstore explanations why weekly dump and pray isn't working. They have to dig deep in their rears to come up with excuses to keep the customers.

At what point can I do the phosphate treatment. Can I do it with the high FC or should I wait for the levels to drop?

If I have no dust returning this late afternoon i might not do MA level of slam then and just see if I pass OCLT test tonight. Had a 1.5FC loss last night and 0CC.

That will cloud up your water and take several days to clear. You also must clean your filter thoroughly after complete.

On day 7 of SLAM and there is still dust. Passed OCLT last night. Only added once this morning. Was planning to let FC drift down tomorrow before resuming SLAM Sunday night after pool party. Notice that the dust color has changed from a dark brown to maybe a hint of red?
