Hi everyone! My first post. Did the slam about a month ago and it worked great. Last week pool turned green...i was doing so good too...after heat and lots of rain. Started with small recurring spots. I started slamming 3 days ago and over slammed unintentionally...was up to 23 fc 0 Cc. Overnight test was 22. Cc still 0. CYA 40. Just tested 6 hrs later now 20. Pool is green. I could see bottom this a.m. but after vacuuming it seemed to stir up. Backwash did not show much green. I also have poly in skimmer which also isn't green. My ph level keeps fluctuating up and down I think because of high chlorine. Id think that with much chlorine nothing would be green. Thoughts? Thank you!

Good luck, the smart folk will help you.Thats gonna take a while to clean up. Is the “poly” in the skimmer a clarifier? If so, thats not needed for algae and may cause other problems. You should ignore testing anything othet than FC while you are in a SLAM. Chlorine is really all that matters right now. Let it get to 16ppm and just keep it there until you meet the exit criteria. Going over 16 just wastes chlorine and $$.
Note: It wasnt the heat and rain that did that, you let the chlorine get too low.
The poly is just from my sewing kit because I ran out of socks. I feel like I tested my chlorine daily and it was high everytime so I thought I was good. I might have missed a day we had a lot of storms. That's why I thought something drastically changed it. Yes. I accidently put too much liquid in when I added the other day...it was dumb measuring on my part. I knew it the minute I did it. I should add that I added stablizer on the 4th and ph down on 9th per poolmath. I'll keep watching and testing.
That level of algae wasnt just one or two missed days of low chlorine. What have the chlorine levels been over the past few weeks? Are you following the minimums on the FC/CYA chart below?

2 weekends ago it was beautiful. I was only doing the daily test and chlorine was always high so I thought we were good.I started doing the full tests that week as I started seeing spots of sediment. I didn't keep track but I am now. I know at one pt my cya was 20...that's when I added stablizer. I think at that time my chlorine was between 8 and 14. Either way here we are and hoping to get it back to clear. Thanks for any advice!
pH testing is undependable when FC is above 10, so ignore it for now, until you get the algae gone.
That amount of green may take a lot of chlorine/vacuuming/testing over more than a few days.
You may want to think about draining and refilling - if your water costs are low, that you will have to add more stabilizer to the new water, perhaps adjust TA and pH, AND still slam for a few days (since you'll never get rid of all the algae).

Very good. Now do your best to maintain that proper SLAM FC level based on your CYA. At the same time, take advantage of polyfill. That is very important. With a high FC level, it will aggravate the iron and that's a perfect time to let polyfill filter it out. The more iron you remove, the better pool life will be.
