On day 2 of SLAM. Posted test results from before I started. Was losing 5-6 ppm of chlorine a day so even though test looked ok figured something must be going on to be using that much chlorine. No signs of visible algae. Water looked fine but after first day of SLAM water definitely looks a little better so think maybe just didnt notice water wasnt as clear as it should be. Felt like i added so much chlorine on day 1. After initial slam to 28ppm since cya is at 70 i tested three more times and each time ppm was down in 15 range so added almost 2 more gallons. Think i added a total of 5-6 gallons during the day. Pool is roughly 15k gallons. Overnight test showed loss of maybe 1 to 1.5ppm. Hard to tell since using taylor test kit at 0.5ppm increments. Added chlorine this morning to get back to 28ppm and tested about 7 hours later and backdown to 15ppm again. So assume i need to add about 2 more gallons again? Just seems like I’m losing so much chlorine. Does this seem normal? Also learned that next time i will get cya closer to 50 or below before I SLAM again.

I'm not sure why you are posting pool store results. Are you testing? What kit?

You cannot slam safely without a proper test kit. Link-->Test Kits Compared

You will not make much headway adding every 7 hours. Every 2-3 is better.

This was one afternoon.

what test kit are you using?
Fc losses at the beginning of the
SLAM Process can be quite high especially at higher fc levels needed for high cya levels.
Testing & replenishing multiple times per day is the fastest way to get ahead- every couple hours if possible

I’m using the taylor k2006. I did lower ph to 7.5 before i started.

Day 3. Pool looks fine but still burning thru a gallon or more of chlorine every 3 hours or so. Shouldn’t I start to see the chlorine usage drop? OCLT was about 1.5 ppm.

At high fc levels it burns off at a higher rate.
The oclt loss points to hidden algae.
What is the empty “pit” between the covered area & the pool?
Also, looks like maybe you have an infinity edge, check & scrub all the places. If water can go there algae can thrive there.
