IS this normal...i walked by and I could hear it just sucking a ton of water into it. The water level is lower now with no rain in awhile. So im thinking i may need to add some water.

Is this a normal thing to have the skimmer have the door completely open and just sucking a ton of water. It is happening on the filtration normal pump cycle of 1750 RPM.

thanks

GTP,

If you can hear the water being sucked out of your skimmer, then your water is way too low. As wjr75 says, the water level should be about halfway between the top and bottom of the skimmer entrance.

And as a follow-up, the noise you hear is because air is being sucked in with the water (water level is too low). When only water is being sucked in there is NO noise from the skimmer area at all.

If the water level had gotten much lower, then the pump would have become starved of water and began cavitating (basically making a lot of noise at the pump) which is harmful to the pump internals. So very important to keep the water level to mid-skimmer on average.
