Every so often when pool is shut off for the night, water will come up from skimmer and skimmer lid is lifted up. Looked underneath skimmer basket and see 2 pipes. Bigger one and smaller one. Smaller one has a rock stuck at opening of the pipe. Almost half out. Tight fit and tried small screwdriver at corners but that didn't help. Also tried hanger but that didn't help either. Is this rock block creating the water to shoot out and how the heck can I get the rock out?

Posting a picture will help us visualize what you are seeing.
Yes...totally forgot about that. Picture of what I am asking about is attached. Okay pipe in question is the smaller (no blue ring around it). If you look closely you should be able to see the actual rock. Thanks

The ring is in the suction port that goes to the pump. The ring is for attaching a suction-type cleaner, based on the color a Kreepy Krauley. The rock is stuck in a plug that is stopping that line for some reason. It may be the line to the main drain (if you have one). The rock is not causing an issue.

You don't say what size pump you have, nor filter pressures, but at times water will rush backwards from the filter, through the pump (that is what the reverse-thread screw is for), and back to the skimmer and cause the issue you are having. You can actually hear the pump being spun backwards as it happens. Seen it many times. Sometimes it is a very dirty filter, sometimes just the hydraulics of the system. A check valve after the pump will stop the problem.

Yep don't have one of those. Here are more photos of equipment we have. Could Jangy settings be an issue? Thanks

Okay will consider that but interestingly enough the water coming up from the skimmer has only been happening maybe last 2 years on and off and we have been here 15+years with this pool. Appreciate all your help with this mystery

Update. Did some additional research and found that if there was a vortex on the actual skimmer (there was) it was because we may needed to add water to the pool itself. So we added water and we had allot of rain yesterday and woooohoooo 2 days straight the skimmer lid has not moved and water has not shot out of the skimmer like before. Vortex was bring allot of extra and unnecessary air into pool system. So for now life is good! Thanks to all.

Update on the air situation when we shut the filter and the skimmer cover shooting up because of extra air. Went on YouTube and searched air leaks in pool equipment. Came across a couple of videos where you take a hose with running water over the area you think maybe the issue. in our case we thought it was around pump, skimmer and the lid because I saw air bubbles when u looked thru the skimmer . Sure enough once the running hose was put above the pump skimmer lid, the bubbles disappeared. There are 2 black plastic nuts and o rings on the side of the motor, skimmer. One had a slight leak, Went to Amazon, found the correct replacement parts and o rings. Switched out the bad one, lubed the oring and wala....no more air bubbles, no swishing noise from within the sand filter. Just peace and quiet so much so that pool pump primes itself within 1 minute. Psi is normal and life is good 😀 and it's been 8 days.
