Skimmer knock out for drain

Can the 1” skimmer knock that’s in the rear of the skimmer be used as an overflow in an in ground pool? Was thinking about cutting a hole and using a sprinkler pipe to overflow water away from the pool during heavy rains. Will this work or will the weir standing up prevent water from entering the skimmer thus preventing the water from draining out through the 1”hole.

The knockout is for a drain or a fill line.. It will work for what you want to do.. Make sure the pipe goes to daylight and not just into the ground.

The weir door is not a concern. One, it's not a tight seal around. Two, even if it were, it would just fall as the skimmer water level dropped. The 1" passive overflow line won't drain water faster than the 1.5-2" line with suction from the pump. If the weir door allows enough water for the pump, the overflow is not a problem.

absolutely can. and with some creativity and 2 valves and waster supply it can be used for fill and overflow. i did this to mine.
